Splendid Hotel!

Over the years I’ve returned to Oakland’s Executive Inn & Suites. I look forward to my “home away from home” on Oakland’s Embarcadero mainly because of its quiet waterside rooms – be sure to book them, rather than the rooms facing Interstate 880. Every waterside room has two chairs on an outdoor deck above a canal, Oakland’s pristine Inner Harbor across from a small military base on an island that’s part of Alameda. I would hardly call a military base “romantic,” but somehow this one is.
With eucalyptus trees, a carefully tended lawn and a walking path, the little park below your outdoor deck will be inviting. Before going for a stroll, I highly recommend taking time out to enjoy your outdoor deck. For the view, I’d recommend booking a room on the second or third floor of this Executive Inn & Suites.
The only amenity no longer available here is the newspaper that used to be delivered to your doorstep every morning; nowadays copies of U.S. News & World Report are piled outside the dining room downstairs. Otherwise, the beds are as firm as ever, the maids’ service is impeccable and the rooms are spacious and well appointed, let alone affordable.
One more word about the dining room: a Mexican-American woman by the name of María has been faithfully attending to guests’ breakfast needs for the past 19 years. Along with Norma, who works on weekends, María is an indispensable component of what I’d call an all-American Riviera experience you will discover at this unique, well-managed inn.
