Emerald Hotel, Bangkok

Just read the review written on Dec 31, 2006. I were there exactly the same period of time but my comments are totally different.....First of all, location is bad, there are all massage, sauna places with mini-skirt flashing around the area. Secondly, the room are so wear out that everything doesn't work, and I have to call the room service almost twice everyday to get the stuffs fixed. Service is BAD BAD BAD, waitress in the resturants are not helpful, and they have pretty bad manner indeed - which really surprised me cuz I haven't seen such a poor service in Bangkok !!!! Most importantly of all, there is nothing around the area - no shopping mall, no resturants and you have to travel long to get to the city centre - first by Subway, then the sky train. And what really turned me off is the service. I would suggest you stay away from there if you really want to have a good time, the hotel doesn't really save you much consider the travel expense to the city centre.

I've stayed here 2005 and Dec. 2006. Great service, staff is always about and willing to help. 24-hour room service and the food is really good! Comfortable rooms, great lobby, great breakfast, nice pool, great gym and sauna facilities. Very near subway Hway Kwang station so you can go anywhere you need to in a flash. True, there are massage parlors nearby but the area isn't at all littered with shady figures...it's very nice and safe. AND, there are no taxi/tuk-tuk drivers to harass you as soon as you step outside, like in Silom. I really like this place and will stay again.

When you stay in this hotel you had better be careful as they seem intent on making their patron pay double. For instance, while we had a confirmation for a standard room they try to get us to change to a so-called executive room for almost twice as much per night. (bait and switch tactic). Later, when I looked at their own web site they charge more for bookings in this period than they do in the peak season!!! Obviously, they will change that as the cool season comes closer. In order to get to this hotel you have to drive through the most dense traffic jams in Bangkok. When you arrive you find the hotel is situated in the middle of its own sexual services industry...message, karoke, sauna, cocktail longues, etc. Apart from these services you are going to be quite far away from anything of real interest. The rooms are clean and the service is good. However, most of the public areas seem to be just brushed over.
