Great Stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/22/11
Chose this hotel because of its location.Came to town for the Cubs-Yankees series.Read the previous reviews of noise, tiny elevator so on.Stayed in room 324 suite. It was NOT bad at all. Walked to the games, great food places, shops and the EL.And yes,you can hear the operator say "doors closing" but we were so tired it was not a downer. The housekeeping staff was prompt, front desk was helpful.we were given the option of moving to a so called quieter room but we passed. We took the stairs it was faster. This is a historical hotel small and quaint.Very satisfied with our stay.

A great place for a good getaway!
By DMAC, 4/23/08
Flew in to Midway from Dallas and took the EL straight to the hotel. It is a very nice little neighborhood with a PotBelly across the street, a Jamba Juice, and several Thi places to eat. It is walking distance to Wigleyville, and boystown. I would like to comment about the noise from the EL because that was my main concern about this hotel after reading these reviews. It is not as bad as these people keep saying. I thought it was going to be terrible, but really, it never woke me up. I thought it was a perfect place to go sightsee during spring break because of the location to the EL. The front-desk was nice and though the rooms were a tad small, its what is expected from an historical hotel. I would suggest this hotel to anyone who is trying to save some money on a trip, but still have a nice place to sleep.

Location is the only positive
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/18/08
The location works well for easy access to Wrigley Field and the local flavors, however, that is about the only plus to staying here. There are basically two rooms choices: small with no view (there is a window, but it's two feet away from the building next door)or a very noisy room with windows overlooking the street. The rooms with no views will allow you good sleep, but very clausterphobic. The rooms with a street view have a more open feeling, but impossible to sleep in. This was my 4th stay and by far the worst ever. We stayed in a "suite", second floor, street view (room 214) The shop next door plays loud banging music from early in the morning until 7pm; the heat was impossible to regulate; the street noise sounded as if everyone were in our room with us. Immediately after checking in we did request another room but were told they were sold out. Staff was friendly and helpful, except the actual hotel manager. She was less than sympathetic to our concerns. My partner and I both are frequent business travelers and expect two fundamental basics; a clean, comfortable room and a quiet room. Clean and comfortable are borderline at the City Suites and quiet was non-existant this stay. We plan on visiting the city several times this summer for Cubs games and weekend getaways and will not be staying here again. Unfortunately there aren't many options in Wrigleyville, but we will exhaust all there are before ever staying here again. BTW, do not pay through the hotel to access parking gargage. It's a public garage a few blocks away and is cheaper to park there on your own. The hotel charges a higher price for the same spot.

Never again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/20/08
Very expensive for what you get! why do you have to pay 400$ and use ear plugs? and drive 2 blocks away and pay 25$ to park your car?! TV wasn't working, there were garbage in elevator,I felt so bad all night! TV wasn't working, there were garbage in elevator, I couldn't believe it!

Quiet on my side of the hotel
By Mstafa, 5/20/07
I chose City Suites Inn because it is next to the CTA (a.k.a. the "El"), which I rode everywhere. Coming back late at night, I felt safe hopping off the metro and walking a few feet through the front doors of the hotel. Because of other reviews, I was nervous about the noise from the CTA disturbing my sleep, however. So I brought ear plugs. Fortunately, I was placed on the side of the hotel away from El, and it was very quiet. Well, except for noisy neighbors (the walls are paper thin). Free continental breakfast was a plus, good house cleaning service, although a broken lamp never got fixed. Friendly staff, however. I'd stay there again, if mainly for the convenience of mass transit.

Over-The-Top Service
By LooniGyrl9215, 7/20/06
We stayed at this hotel the last weekend of June, 2006 for Chicago Pride in Boystown/Lakeview and I have never had a better experience. We found a parking spot on the street right in front of the hotel. (The parking garage was closed during the day due to the parade.) Knowing that we would have to return to the car every two hours to feed the meter, the gentleman at the front desk (I think his name was Poui...but I might have that spelled incorrectly.) offered to take our quarters and do it for us until the garage opened and we could park there. He also told us that since the parking situation was inconvenient, we would have an extra 12 hours - till 3:00 am on the day after hour check out. (AND he refused a tip when we offered him one!) As for space: we had plenty. We had 2 double beds and a sofa bed...plenty of room for the 6 of us staying in the suite. Noise: I am used to staying in hotels in Chicago. Most conveniently located hotels will have some train noise, and this was not the worst I have experienced. Breakfast: When we did make it downstairs (after a wild night at the walking-distance clubs and bars) we had missed the Ann Sathers cinnamon rolls. Well, there was Poui again to our rescue. Within 5 minutes, we had fresh, hot cinnamon rolls and coffee! Overall, this was by far the best hotel experience I have had in Chicago or anywhere and we have already scheduled another weekend there in August. :)

Fantastic location!
By Bryan, 4/3/06
Love this place! Location couldn't have been any better. Walking distance or a short "L" ride to anywhere in the city. The room wasn't very big... Didn't goto Chicago to spend all my time in a hotel room either. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. That's all that matters. I would recommend this place to anyone. I'd definitely stay here again.

cool hotel, loved it
By TraceyJ, 3/16/06
We loved this funky little hotel in Wrigleyville/Belmont. The staff was very helpful. We had a suite, which was on the small side, but plenty spacious for our group of three. The rooms were clean, as was the old fashioned bathroom. Yes, there was noise when the window was open (the El line was right outside the bathroom window), but there are the key words--window and open. How often can you open the window in a hotel room? Which is the point with this hotel--it's not a cookie cutter chain but an interesting building within itself, with all the pleasures and foibles of a hotel in a funky neighborhood. I was quite happy with the closeness of the El when it was pouring rain (literally a 30 second stroll finds you at the El entrance), but I can see where some would find it off putting. There are many places to eat and shop in the neighborhood surrounding the hotel, and Ann Sathers rolls next door make a great souvenir to take home (although we didn't get them for continental breakfast as promised, unfortunatly). Parking could be an issue for some, as it's in a not-so secured lot that's more than a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Overall, I loved this place for its individuality and funkiness--it's not luxurious or fancy, but fun.
