Front desk staff here has major billing issues
Checking in to my "king" room, I found it was actually a single double bed. When i went back to the front desk to question it, the man there pretty much told me that the person who booked my reservation was at fault and that he could not honor the room rate I was given in my confirmation. BUT - for another $15 he could put me into a king room. I was too tired and figured I could deal with it at check out - because the person who confirmed my reservation (made the same day I checked in) would be checking me out in the morning. At check-out, she said there was nothing she could do because I had stayed in a handi-cap room. I didn't ask for or need a handi-cap room room, it was what the idiot the night before insisted was the only room available. Yet - there were not even enough cars to fill half the parking lot. Since you park your car right outside of your room, it was hard to believe that he had no other options. I paid $105 for the night in a room that was about 100 square feet, and was worth about $50. I really felt like this is a routine they play on plenty of people.
I will never stay at this place again because of the front desk staff. I asked for directions to downtown, which I would assume would be a common request and the guy told me to use my navigation system (I didn't have one) He just grunted at me and said I would have to look it up.
To their credit, the housekeeping staff here do a great job with what they have to work with . This is an old hotel that is in dire need of updating. They are friendly and really went out of the way for me. I liked that.
This place is right off the tollway and completely inconvenient if you are in town to be in Pittsburgh. There were about 25 steps to get downtown. No wonder they won't give you directions! They don't want to be responsible for getting you lost.
I think half of the folks put up here were on welfare and the other half were day laborers who brought in beer to drink away their cares in evening. When the paper guy came to deliver newspapers at 4am, he left his radio blaring loud enough that it woke me up. He was there for 15 minutes with the door open and his bass booming.
The only other good thing is that this was the only hotel in the area that i could find that would allow me to have my dog. I would highly recommend - as I did - making a video of the room as you check in and when you are checking out. I did not trust the hotel enough not to blame my dog for damage that was already there.
Just find another place to stay if you are traveling to Pittsburgh.
