if you must be in Accra this isn't bad

I'm writing this from my room these are my impressions at day 3 of an 18 night stay from my room.
Right now it's 17:14 and the "band" is blaring through my poolside room door.
The descrambler for my TV has apparently been removed (read ripped out) but I still have instructions on how to order non-existent movies.
Restaurant service is beyond slow, last night took over an hour to deliver mine and a co-worker's "New York strip" I have no idea what the cut of meat was but it wasn't a strip.
Breakfast buffet is bearable if you stick to the fruits and such; anything fried leaves me feeling nauseous for a few hours.
The cigarette stench leaves me with a constant sinus headache, I sincerely hope the smell washes out of my clothing when I return home.
I managed to lock my room safe last night but couldn't get it to unlock, luckily this was just to test it, when I returned to my room it was open this afternoon, no I did not tell anyone it was just magically open (I'm so glad I didn't use it), if you stay here don't leave valuables or keep them near you at all times.
Most services touted on the website are non-existent
The bathroom was crawling with mold, I seriously think the towels are re-used.
The gym while somewhat better than what I have seen at many hotels is not a fitness club, it's a 12'x25' room but it does have dumbbells up to 65lbs with 2 regular benches a squat rack, universal gym 3 treadmills and 2 bikes. Tennis courts look nice but I don't play tennis.
Pool area is nice, local draft beer is cheap and people watching is interesting, I still haven’t made it into the “casino” yet.
After seeing some of Accra over the last few days I could see where this place is a Ritz Carlton to the locals, personally I have seen many a Marriott or La Quinta that would put this place to shame for cleanliness and bang for the buck but, considering the surroundings this place is livable.
All that being said if you have to stay in Accra and can't get a place at the Palm this is your next best choice.
Just don't expect a resort, even by European standards.
I will update this review after the stay is over.
