Best Hotel in Town
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/19/08
The Tulip has everthing you would wish a top class hotel would have. The rooms are very tidy and the food is great. It is very secure and has great staff! Hairdresser, Casino, Nice Pool, Tennis Courts, Golf Range, For any world traveler who expects a certain standard the Golden Tulip is the only place in town that can provide this. Can't wait to be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *****

Fantastic Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/10/07
This year was my first visit to the Accra Area. I have found that my stay at Golden Tulip was very nice. The rooms are Ok and the price is average for a hotel like this one. If you are looking for a good meal, eat at any of the restaurants in the hotel. Even the pool menu has interesting items not found anywhere else and they taste fantastic! Bravo! Will be back next year to stay and dine with you!

The hotel is clean and in a good part of the city with great access to get around
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/4/07
I booked two queen sized beds for each room (double occupancy), but when I got there we got twin beds, yet the rate was the same. No one explained why. If you pay cash and make a deposit, be aware that within two days they will be hounding you for the rest of the money. If you want clothes laundered, be careful as they wash white and colored clothes together and you will have a lot of lint on your clothing. The staff are very courteous and the place is clean and airy. If you are a smoker, it will be very uncomfortable for you to stay by the pool and in the bar and club aread. Some people were smoking in the non-smoking bedroom areas. The food was pretty, we would suggest that they have Africa night more often, instead of only Tuesdays. Overall it was good, but be presistence on getting the correct beds in the room you booked.

Trip #2 2007
By J, 8/11/07
This is written from a business travelers point of view who has stayed two times. The first time for two and a half weeks the second for ten days. ---- Bathroom on both trips have had mold pretty badly. The first trip I thought it just may have been my room but I'm in a different area this time and it's still there. An investment in special paints to help with the mold problem in the bathroom would go a long way. ----- Internet access while it does exist is very slow. Just a slight step up from Dialup. Average download speeds are 9k on off peak hours. ----- Air conditioning in the room comes in the form of two settings.. Cold and Artic. There is no setting for temprature just on low, on high, or off. ----- Food is not so good. I've tried just about everything and nothing tastes quite like it should. There is an exception. The Greek salad, the side salad, and the build your own pizza. The pizza is greasy but it tastes like it should most days. I say that because you can get a cook that seems to like to put sugar in the sauce. If you wonder what I mean by it just doesn't taste right order the steamed rice. I figured that was as basic as I could get after a failed attempt at a hamburger and even frenchfries. I think the taste must come from either the water or the pans. ----- Service for food is a hit and miss until you learn how to do it. If you sit down and expect them to operate like an American resturant you will be mistaken. Think more along the lines of a European style resturant. It will take your waiter on average of 20 minutes to ask you if you want drinks. They do not assume you want a menu unless you ask for it. I think they expect your dinner experience to be more of a social thing and generally don't bother you. This can seem frustrating but if you need anything ask any staff member and they will let your waiter know. The staff is always around. If you are by the pool this doesn't work as well. The further away from the bar you go the longer the wait. In that case it's easier and faster for you to walk to the bar and get it yourself. Tip- If you drink coffee and don't want to go to the buffet head straight for the inside service bar and request coffee and then sit down. Another tip-- If you want your check and your waiter hasn't been seen in a while go straight to the cashier. ----- Other service is pretty good. Laundry service is always prompt and has never lost an article of clothing yet. Room service is decent. -- Tip. If you take a drink from the mini bar finish it. If you leave it half empty they will keep it in your room. They charge you for the day it's missing. If you get someone else cleaning your room the next day they charge you again. I didn't catch on until this stay after the seventh day. I only noticed because they at least leave the reciepts on the desk and don't throw away the old ones. ----- Overall this isn't a bad hotel. Some minor adjustments to paint and food service. If I seemed a little harsh on the food I should point out that it is far better than any resturant I have been to in Ghana. I have never got to stay at the Palm. It seems to always be booked. I have stayed at the Novetel and can say I will never choose it over the Tulip. another tip.. If you go to bed early do not get a poolside room. The band plays every night until 10 and weekends I think until 11. The walls are thin and you will hear everything until it stops.

if you must be in Accra this isn't bad
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/9/07
I'm writing this from my room these are my impressions at day 3 of an 18 night stay from my room. Right now it's 17:14 and the "band" is blaring through my poolside room door. The descrambler for my TV has apparently been removed (read ripped out) but I still have instructions on how to order non-existent movies. Restaurant service is beyond slow, last night took over an hour to deliver mine and a co-worker's "New York strip" I have no idea what the cut of meat was but it wasn't a strip. Breakfast buffet is bearable if you stick to the fruits and such; anything fried leaves me feeling nauseous for a few hours. The cigarette stench leaves me with a constant sinus headache, I sincerely hope the smell washes out of my clothing when I return home. I managed to lock my room safe last night but couldn't get it to unlock, luckily this was just to test it, when I returned to my room it was open this afternoon, no I did not tell anyone it was just magically open (I'm so glad I didn't use it), if you stay here don't leave valuables or keep them near you at all times. Most services touted on the website are non-existent The bathroom was crawling with mold, I seriously think the towels are re-used. The gym while somewhat better than what I have seen at many hotels is not a fitness club, it's a 12'x25' room but it does have dumbbells up to 65lbs with 2 regular benches a squat rack, universal gym 3 treadmills and 2 bikes. Tennis courts look nice but I don't play tennis. Pool area is nice, local draft beer is cheap and people watching is interesting, I still haven’t made it into the “casino” yet. After seeing some of Accra over the last few days I could see where this place is a Ritz Carlton to the locals, personally I have seen many a Marriott or La Quinta that would put this place to shame for cleanliness and bang for the buck but, considering the surroundings this place is livable. All that being said if you have to stay in Accra and can't get a place at the Palm this is your next best choice. Just don't expect a resort, even by European standards. I will update this review after the stay is over.

IT IS HOME AWAY FROM HOME!
By dzidzora, 6/17/07
I liked the services. The people were friendly, hospitable and i guess that is the true Ghanaian spirit. but i wish i could bring ma whole family over, but it is quite expensive.well knowing that it is a first class hotel i can appreciate that. but it will be great to do some free-night promotions at the hotel for your frequent users.

Service Needs Improvement
By Thanos, 4/19/06
Good location; relatively clean and comfortable; good breakfast; OK food (but quite expensive); free transfers from/to airport; attracts locals and expats, so quite lively. The Service, especially at the restaurant and Pool Bar, although it is not bad for West African standards, it is much below what an international traveller would expect. Some examples: - an omelette for the kids arrives 20mins after the rest of the order - the waiter to ask for the bill at the Pool Bar is nowhere to be seen, but there are about 3 waiters doing nothing in the adjacent restaurant - after going looking for the waiter, the bill takes another 20mins to arrive - the swimming pool has run out of towels and have to wait for 50mins to get one - one of the days the room was cleaned at 17:00, after having to call 4 times and another day it was not cleaned at all - the worst part was that during our 4-day visit, on average 2-3 glasses/bottles would break every day beside the pool (and nobody would rush to clean it either). Nobody has told them about plastic glasses or no glass by the pool! Overall, value for money was very poor, but there may be limited choice in Accra. For business travel, most of the weak points should not matter much. For holidays (especially with kids) be prepared for poor service and do complain!

the best
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/9/05
this is by far the best hotel in accra. the service was great and the room was great, the only down fall is that it is quite a distance to the beach and is hard to get there is you dont know your way around. the hotel has wonderful restrants and a great buffet which is at the pool side. at night the place was wonderful with the pool lit up and the live band playing.
