Wonderful Experience
By SalgalB, 11/13/07
The location was amazing! We were able to walk everywhere and enjoy all ambiences and dining experiences. We enjoyed staying at The Hotel Rodney as it is now called. We felt totally "at home." The Staff was very helpful and accomodating. We were given "inside" tips about where to dine and investigate. Our room was beautiful, cozy, and very quiet. It was our anniversary, and upon request, a bottle of champagne was awaiting us after check-in. We will definitely go back and enjoy their hospitality!

Wonderful Getaway
By D Marie, 10/2/07
I visited the Zwannendael Hotel which is now under a different name "Hotel Rodney". What a lovely place! Under new ownership and management and a very delightful place to getaway. This Hotel has been recently renovated and the Hotel Lobby is quite eye catching and classy. The third floor has also been renovated with beautiful furnishings and marble bathrooms/showers. The second floor is to be renovated in the winter, however the charm of Victorian Furnishings were found to be neat, clean, comfortable and charming. There is a Restaurant next to the Hotel (Beseme) which served a lovely meal with nice atmosphere as well. The City of Lewes left an overall great impression and our stay at Hotel Rodney topped it off. Will definately return!

I won't go back
By Frances, 3/20/07
I have been going to the Zwaanendael for three years and even though it had its ups and downs, it was workable. But I have finally had it after a conversation on the phone to make reservations for this season. There seems to be a disconnect somewhere at the top. The owner/management does not seem to communicate that they want your business and the staff are often either inexperienced (cannot answer most simple questions) or sometimes rude. It is a let's just provide a room and that's it mentality, which is not what I'm looking for. As someone who used to help run a small motel, I can tell you that that attitude comes through loud and clear. I won't be back.

Dissapointed!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/19/06
I used to LOVE going to the Zwaanendael -- and did so at least twice a year. I liked the "old world" feel, and the quietness. I especially liked coming down to my choice of one of five delicious breakfasts each morning. Now, that's gone.I sent my cousin and her husband there a few weeks ago (for the Greyhounds at the Beach in Rehoboth) because it was always such a treat to go to Zwaanendael, and I wanted her to have the experience. Alas, she had a horrible experience -- no sit-down breakfast, as I had promised she would have, just a continental one in the basement (sigh!). The elevator kept her and her husband awake all night, and the young woman at the desk was "very snippy," with them. The rooms always were small, the beds not as comfortable as one might like; I did warn her about that, but I assured her the ambiance (and breakfast!) would make up for the inconvenience. Alas, it did not. I do love Lewes. I am so disappointed that the Zwaanendael had to change in such a negative way. However, I guess I have had my last Zwannendael vacation, because I am not at all happy with the recent changes as reported to me by my cousin and her husband. I'll miss you, Zwaanendael!

"GOOD CHOICE"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/05
Very Small room with no T.V., though we did see a suite and there is plenty of room in those. There is a T. V. on the lower level with comfortable sofas and chairs. Staff very helpful, and breakfast was good. Inhouse restaurant not open except for breakfast due to the season. Location close to shops and other restaurants. A/C unit a little noisy when blower motor goes on. We would return if ever we visit Lewes again.
