Agree with Mary
By Andrew, 10/24/11
We stayed 9 nights and the manager works hard with what the old owner gives him to work with. The only bugs I saw were fruit flies, big deal. If you're looking for what a brand new Best Western or Cabin has in it and looks like, then pay and go there. This place did for us what we expected and have no complaints except that the owner, wherever he hides, needs to put some money into it. We needed a place with a kitchenette at a good price and location for 9 nights and got it. Most of the people working there were nice and helpful.

owner the problem, not management
By Mary, 10/11/11
we have stayed here every fall since 1994. over the years we have seen managers come and go. the motel is adequate for the money. occasionally i've seen ants or other bugs, but i find those in my home occasionally, too. additionally, this motel is in the mountains, near a national park -- there are bugs everywhere. any motel can have bugs because cleaning people leave the doors open when they clean! that said, what i have learned over these years is that the problem is the owner more than the staff. i have tried to deal with the owner (who has other motels in Pigion Forge). he is an old man, has not people skills, and makes extremely personal, inappropriate comments about staff and even myself as the caller. I tried to compliment him on the married couple who managed the townsend property several years ago, and he began telling me very personal things about that couple. things that as a former HR secretary I knew were borderline illegal. He makes his managers work 24/7, and won't spend the money on the Townsend property. So when the current manager (single) assists a walk-in during the night, he has just gotten out of bed because he has no night clerk. During the day he isn't able to just sit at the desk because he is busy trying to fix things the owner won't replace. The computer/rprinter in the office are dinosaurs. Yes, I have had issues at this motel. But I've also made an effort to understand what is going on. We stay a week at a time, and are able to see what the owner in Pigeon Forge is NOT doing. The poor employees in Townsend are doing the best they can with worn out equipment, not enough staff, no days off for the manager who works 24/7, and a boss who is unreasonable, apparently crazy, rude, mean, and much more. When the manager cannot refund money, it isn't his fault. He is locked into the policies of the owner. If you want to complain, contact the Better Business Bureau of Knoxville -- about the owner, not the manager.

What A Dump!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/23/11
What can I say. I tried to give this place a chance. I arrived at a late hour and the only rooms still available on the ground floor required a space heater if you wanted heat. That should have been my cue to politely wave off Family Inns of America/Townsend,TN but no, I had to inquire further because it was late and my wife and I were both tired. The night guy gave me the key for an upstairs suite that he offered me at a discount. The wife and I went up the stairs after lugging our bags from the end of the lot.( the extension ladder placed on the end of the building was another cue that we were in trouble here.) Upon entering the room all I could think was "What A Dump!" It had most of what you would expect from a suite but it was all run down and dirty. And I was right when I saw the extension ladder on the side of the building, the roof had been leaking. In the corner of the ceiling towards the back of the room over the kitchenette was evidence of a bad roof leak complete with black mold, Yuck!, The look on my wife's face said it all before she exclaimed " Get Me Out of Here!" I will say that the night clerk gave me a refund after calling his boss when I told him that we did not find the accommodations very accommodating and would not be staying after all. The people that run this place also run the Grand Hotel and Convention Center in Pigeon Forge, I have come to find out. In a nut shell, if you are looking to stay in the Townsend, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg area stay clear of the Family Inns/ Grand Hotels line of accommodations because I have a feeling that every thing they own is run down, dirty and out of date. "What A Dump!"

Credit cards
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/26/08
If you make reservations, make sure you do not let them charge your credit card until the day you leave, because if you have to leave early for any reason, they will not refund your money. I have never stayed at a motel, in my opinion, that is as dishonest as Family Inn in Townsend, TN. I will not recommend anyone to check in with a credit card.

We will be back
By tammy s, 7/13/08
We loved our trip to Townsend. The manger of this hotel and his wife was very nice and we will stay with them again. The room was clean and the cleaning staff was great. The thing was loved the most was the pool. The kids loved playing in it. And we could use it at anytime....If you going to the area. And you are looking for a place to stay. I would try this hotel out...

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/7/08
we had a friend to pass the week we went, almost did not go but it was our 11th year of being married so we went and stayed. this was not a good ideal.!ran to the room used the rest room and left until about 10 walked in and oh no! the carpet was tore up along my side of bed,the dirt and dust was awful around the air,the cable box was hanging out of the wall behide the tv, they were not a fitted sheet on the bed, top blanket smelled awful, and the power went out [they have no control over that] but it was pitch black, no light up EXIT sign, no phone call to make sure everones ok I was scared ,then after all that, we got up the next moring took a shower in cold water. so we paid for couch to set on, because i was worried about the bed room #9, i did take pic of all thi

Staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/27/07
My stay here in Townsend was unexpected and unwanted due to my fathers illness but I must say the staff there is great. I had met a wonderful lady at the front desk who made me feel right at home and I found myself more interested in my stay here. from what I understand people that come to stay here like to chat with the manager there and feel better about their stay and she told me about her children and grandchild who's beautiful, and while I missed my girls she made it easier for me to cope with being away from home and my fathers illness. Thank you Ann! The house cleaners here are great, everything was nice and clean it had a fresh feeling to it. I actually would like to come back here to Townsend and stay again the $ for ice and phone calls is worth the hospitality! I will be recommending this place to anyone i know in TN and to anyone raveling there.

i have stayed in motels across the country, and let me tell you this, family inn townsend is one of the cleanest, nicest i have ever been to. the staff is great, they treat you with smiling faces and like extended family. the manager that was mentioned above works around the clock to ensure that the motel is running correctly. i have stayed at this motel many many times and never have i had a negative time spent there. i stongly advise all to give family inn townsend a chance trust me you will see for yourself it is a great place to stay.
