owner the problem, not management
we have stayed here every fall since 1994. over the years we have seen managers come and go. the motel is adequate for the money. occasionally i've seen ants or other bugs, but i find those in my home occasionally, too. additionally, this motel is in the mountains, near a national park -- there are bugs everywhere. any motel can have bugs because cleaning people leave the doors open when they clean!
that said, what i have learned over these years is that the problem is the owner more than the staff. i have tried to deal with the owner (who has other motels in Pigion Forge). he is an old man, has not people skills, and makes extremely personal, inappropriate comments about staff and even myself as the caller. I tried to compliment him on the married couple who managed the townsend property several years ago, and he began telling me very personal things about that couple. things that as a former HR secretary I knew were borderline illegal. He makes his managers work 24/7, and won't spend the money on the Townsend property. So when the current manager (single) assists a walk-in during the night, he has just gotten out of bed because he has no night clerk. During the day he isn't able to just sit at the desk because he is busy trying to fix things the owner won't replace. The computer/rprinter in the office are dinosaurs.
Yes, I have had issues at this motel. But I've also made an effort to understand what is going on. We stay a week at a time, and are able to see what the owner in Pigeon Forge is NOT doing. The poor employees in Townsend are doing the best they can with worn out equipment, not enough staff, no days off for the manager who works 24/7, and a boss who is unreasonable, apparently crazy, rude, mean, and much more. When the manager cannot refund money, it isn't his fault. He is locked into the policies of the owner. If you want to complain, contact the Better Business Bureau of Knoxville -- about the owner, not the manager.
