The worst motel experience of my life
By D, 12/5/11
In over 15 years of regular business and personal travel, I have never encountered such terrible hospitality. This motel ranks as the WORST. Some highlights: - Our friend, who booked us, got offered a "special rate". The owner reminded us "Usually the room goes for double the amount". A big lie. On the internet the room was advertised for $10 below this "special rate". - The heating did not work, and the owner did not fix it. Slept in the cold. Lots of noise from highway traffic kept us awake. But couldn't move to another hotel since it was late at night. - Got woken up at 10am by a rude man asking us if we wanted to stay an extra day. We told him we were really tired and would pay for an extra day to sleep in - they had our credit card afternoon. He told us to "Come over and Pay Right Now if you want to stay". - We went over to pay and complained about the rude wake-up call in the morning to the lady at the reception (probably his wife). She says "Oh, he's not rude!". Almost comically, a man runs in screaming, holding a baton or something and tells us to get out of his hotel. We left immediately, in shock, and laughing since none of us had ever encountered such a terrible hotel experience in their life. They get the one star for having the audacity to offer such terrible service in the hospitality industry in such an economic climate, and still think they can run a business.

Can't wait to leave
By katie, 7/24/10
The advertised price was $45, but when we arrived we were charged $70 plus a $5 key deposit. There was a sign that said "No Prostitution", but later in the evening it was clearly a prostitue hangout. We did not feel safe leaving our stuff in the room. The tv and phone provided were not functional, as well as the outlets did not work. The bathroom was littered in pubic hair. There were bugs and lizards running about our room when we woke up, and the single pane window allowed us to hear people hitting on each other outside. The front desk attendant was not willing to answer any of our questions and we had to speak to him through a bullet proof hole in the wall. When we were checking in, there was a man complaining about how the rates had gone up and that his car had recently been taken away by the police, which confirmed my suspicion of a seedy neighborhood. I would never return here, or recommend it to anyone.

Star Lodge,1915 W Vista Way, Vista, CA 92083
By susfubb, 10/8/04
The highest possible praise for this motel, its rooms, and service has already been given in the official description: fairly low price and "standard motel design." If your vehicle has broken down on the jam-packed freeway, which is just yards away, Star Lodge may have to make do.

Desperate for a few hours' sleep & can't manage the few miles to Oceanside? Hope you packed ear plugs. In addition to Hwy 78's notorious traffic jams & accidents, ambulance sirens will wail night & day on West Vista Way (nearby Tri-City Hospital), and the chances of loud searches & drug busts in the room next door or downstairs are high. Star Lodge changes its name & ownership often, but remains a well-known weekly/ monthly-rate refuge for speed freaks partying all night, and dealers on the run from the law.

Make sure that there are sufficient locks on doors, that windows are secure. Park your car in strong light where you can SEE it from inside your room, lock it all around, and arm the alarm. Remember that others have done the same, so you'll need to be alert enough to recognize your own alarm's distinctive screeching... despite the ear plugs.
