The room felt clean, I slept great. This was my first time in a Motel 6, I will stay again and recommend to my friends. I didn't have problems with the water. I did have problems with service and attitude from attendant (M.J).
We stayed at motel 6 south while planning our wedding. When we arrived we noticed the toilet had vomit splatter on it, and a spider in the tub. We also noticed upon going to bed that there were hairs not belonging to us in the sheets; and you could hear every word spoken by a few gentlemen outside. Later we made the mistake of drinking the water. The entire night we were both violently ill, and not realizing it was the water, continued to drink it as we became more and more dehydrated. The next morning after realizing the water was the culprit we informed the front desk upon checkout.
Later as we continued to be ill we returned to motel 6 south to request a number to contact as I was worried I would need to visit the hospital. The gentleman behind the counter told me that they would not cover hospital cost and I they thought it was motel 6 fault for us to call them and they would send a message to corporate.
The girl who checked us out that morning came in and bluntly said "the water here isn't safe to drink." I asked why they have an ice machine and cups by the sink then, and why there is no sign posted, no writen notice? The only answer they had is that the cups are there for If you bring your own beverage. That even refused to give me the corporate number. Needless to say I will be contacting them, and I will be asking my wedding guest who plan to stay there next month to change their reservation.
The picture of Motel 6 SLO South on the Motel 6 web site shows this as being a "new" style Motel 6 which appears to be a three story building built around interior hallways with guest room windows facing out (not onto a hallway/heavily traveled walkway). This is, of course, preferable to the "old" style Motel 6 (walkway outside room w/guest room windows facing it) because of increased privacy (other guests walking to their room aren't 12 inches from your window) and better sound isolation (passing guests talking are on the other side of a wall, not just the other side of a glass window). Unfortunately, I discovered upon arriving at this Motel 6 that it actually is an OLD style, not a NEW style as depicted on their web page. Had I known this, I would have stayed elsewhere (I'd not stayed at a Motel 6 for over ten years mostly because I don't like the "walk by" windows) - but this is something of a "pet peeve" of mine.
Interior of room was clean and appeared to be freshly renovated. Some (gang?) graffiti was carved into the TV's plastic top - replacing the TV is (for a Motel 6) fairly expensive so I accepted this as "you pay for what you get". The heating and AC didn't work very well - the fan was very loud and had an annoying whine. It was also very difficult to get a stable temperature -- it would cycle onto heat for a while, then off for a while, and then A/C for a while.
The motel has a very good location, 8 minutes to downtown San Luis Obispo, 15 minutes to the beach at Moro Bay. Walking distance to a VERY GOOD restuarant. If you stay more than one day the cleaning people do not vacuum the room or put in clean drinking cups or soap. Over all it was quiet and very comfortable.
