Not what is pictured!
The picture of Motel 6 SLO South on the Motel 6 web site shows this as being a "new" style Motel 6 which appears to be a three story building built around interior hallways with guest room windows facing out (not onto a hallway/heavily traveled walkway). This is, of course, preferable to the "old" style Motel 6 (walkway outside room w/guest room windows facing it) because of increased privacy (other guests walking to their room aren't 12 inches from your window) and better sound isolation (passing guests talking are on the other side of a wall, not just the other side of a glass window). Unfortunately, I discovered upon arriving at this Motel 6 that it actually is an OLD style, not a NEW style as depicted on their web page. Had I known this, I would have stayed elsewhere (I'd not stayed at a Motel 6 for over ten years mostly because I don't like the "walk by" windows) - but this is something of a "pet peeve" of mine.
Interior of room was clean and appeared to be freshly renovated. Some (gang?) graffiti was carved into the TV's plastic top - replacing the TV is (for a Motel 6) fairly expensive so I accepted this as "you pay for what you get". The heating and AC didn't work very well - the fan was very loud and had an annoying whine. It was also very difficult to get a stable temperature -- it would cycle onto heat for a while, then off for a while, and then A/C for a while.
