A Victorian Delight
This was my first visit to an American Bed & Breakfast Inn, and I was completely charmed by the experience. The Gosby Inn has 22 rooms, yet it felt very cozy and we barely heard the other guests. My husband and I arrived in time for wine, cheese and appetizers, which gave us an opportunity to unwind after a long day of driving. Our traveling companions had arrived a day earlier and were comfortably settled in. Parking is a bit of an issue in this area, as the Inn is just blocks from the coast. Our friends had discovered a nice restaurant within walking distance, so we stayed put for the evening.
The staff were very friendly and we soon felt right at home. There were even birthday balloons waiting for me in our room, which was an unexpected touch. In the evening, our bed was turned down and a teddy bear stood guard over chocolates on the pillows! The rooms had private baths and there were plenty of towels and amenities.
After a night of restful sleep, we enjoyed a generous breakfast of eggs, potatoes, fresh fruit, juice and coffee. The blueberry muffins were delicious (as were the peanut butter cookies we had for a late night snack the prior evening).
The location was convenient for sightseeing in Monterey. I loved the history of the Inn and the attention to detail in the decor. It was so much more personal than a hotel. I will definitely stay there again, and highly recommend the Inn to anyone seeking a warm, homey atmosphere, excellent service, and plenty of delicious food.
