Would never go there again!!!

I read reviews before we booked our tour and there were very few negative comments. However, we were totally disappointed. We are in our early 60's. The only positives I can give are that the place was beautiful, the rooms were clean and the staff were friendly. The food at the buffets - at first appearance looked good, but was either too spicy, undercooked chicken (samela waiting to happen), there was a lot of variety but food was not appealing to us. The problem was that the place was 75% booked by nationals and they catered to them. Yes, there were hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, pasta bars, and omelet bars, but not cooked like you would have them in Canada or USA and who wants to go to a supposedly rated 5* and eat fast food. To reserve for the better restaurants (only one airconditioned) you had to be at the desk before 8 a.m. to book and they only booked 50% of the restaurant. The two times we ate in reserved restaurants they were only 3/4 full and was not as advertised. The only place for good drinks were these restaurants, the others and the bars watered them down. The buffets also had birds flying in and out and pooping all over and trying to share you food. They thought this was funny!!! If the resort was no filled to capacity, they cut services. The bed was a mattress thrown on wooden slats with a foamy and the pillows were limp. There were no fridges in the rooms and you were given warm bottled water. The pools were beautiful and we enjoyed the adult only one, but the plastic lounge chairs were not padded and you could only sit for a short time. The same on the beach. The a/c woke us up all night, shutting on and off and the only place to get refuge from the heat was our room. If you are challenged by the heat at all, don't go there during the summer months. You really had to dig for information all the time, no one really was forthcoming and not a lot of English spoken.
All of the evening shows were in an amphitheatre, were there was no airflfow and at night must have been over 100 degrees. If they had done the show at the beach were there was a nice breeze sometimes, it would have been more bearable. We were looking forward to more cultural events, but both nights we attended and left before it was over because of the heat, they were doing audience participation events which were lame and we could watch on tv anytime without the unbearable heat and humidity.
Tours are better to be booked with Scott down the road near Bucerias. The city tour was well worth it, but we didn't include lunch, bought it ourselves and got the tour for $10 each US rather than $70. After this experience I will never go to Puerto Vallarta again, but I might pay extra and go to Cancun and get a REAL 4 or 5* with restaurants with air and no reservations necessary at 8 a.m.
