Kona Nalu, Kailua Kona

We could not have asked for a more beautiful, serene, relaxing place to stay in Kona. The condo is just steps away from the ocean and provides a breathtaking view of the surf from the balcony. Beautiful interior design, all necessary amenities including washer/dryer, and then some! I was very impressed with the "little things" like the activity scrapbook- a collection of menus, brochures, maps, recommendations on where to eat, what to do, and the best places to snorkel. The surrounding neighborhoods provided plenty of great routes for my early morning jogs. I will definitely return to Kona Nalu in future visits to Kona. Amazing place!

What a great place! We were in #302, and I wouldn't hesitate to go back. Perfect location, quiet complex, just very well done.

Kona Nalu 303, All of the reviews below are 100% accurate with the exception of the 2005 report of bugs. We stayed for 8 nights the first week of April 2008, and we only saw one bug (it was a big one though) in the elevator the night before leaving. Also the elevator worked fine, it didn't seem to make any funny noises, so I'm assuming it has been fixed. I walked around and looked at all of the condos and the ones that are for rent, I really think unit 303 and 302 have the absolute best views. Although don't get me wrong every unit of this complex has wonderful ocean views. Kona Nalu is absolutely Ocean Front. You couldn't get any closer. Also I really liked the 3rd floor, it is very private. We had a great vacation, and spent much more time in the condo than anticipated, simply because of the view and the sound of the waves. We even went for Pizza one night and the restaurant was not in downtown Kona and didn’t have an ocean view, but we didn’t care because after we ate, we simply went home and had our own ocean front view. 303 is still my favorite though. If you’re looking for an ocean front condo, without the frills of a big resort this is it. I actually felt sorry for the people staying at say the outrigger, or the Sheraton. They’re most likely paying top dollar for their ocean views or ocean front, and they are required to eat out each day. There are so many restaurants in Kona that I’d rather have the flexibility of making bfast or dinner in the condo or driving 5 minutes to a nice restaurant. In any case I absolutely give Kona Nalu 303 “a thumbs up”, we loved it, and I will definitely be back!!

We stayed at Kona Nalu 105. This unit has been totally renovated, and is incredible. Direct oceanview, stone floors, granite counters everywhere, cherry cabinets, wireless high speed internet, and the service from the rental company Abbey Vacation Rentals was superb. They are open seven days a week, so when we had a question over the weekend, a live person was there to help us out.

This is how you want to stay in Hawaii - Ocean Front! I like unit 301 as it is the best view corner unit. I have stayed there more than once and I have stayed other places in Kona, have been to all the islands and the Kona Nalu is my favorite. It's simply the location. You don't get ocean front like this for the price. In fact you can stay and pay at a much higher priced resort in Kohala and you wont have ocean front like you do at the Kona Nalu. Depending on your priorities - if ocean front is important to you then this is the place. If a full service resort with ammenities is important to you then you do not want to stay here. There is no beach here butthe waves are loud and satisfying then in the afternoon the water turns a beautiful turquoise color. It's a problem because you don't want to leave the unit. Stay at the Kona Nalu, purchase the book Big Island Revealed, rent a SUV and head to the green sand beach for a unique experience.

We stayed in room 303 and couldn't have been happier. This place is in the perfect location...less than 2 miles from the main part of town in Kona, allowing the serenity of listening to the ocean waves crashing at our fingertips. We made a trip to the grocery store and prepared almost all of our meals in the kitchen and then ate every night on the breathtaking lanai to gaze at the ocean, spot huge sea turtles and watch every sunset. This place is as oceanfront as it gets and the privacy of being on the 3rd floor is definitely a positive. All of the white-sand beaches are in close driving distance and one of the main snokeling destinations is literally a 2 minute drive, or 10 minute walk. Also, a wonderful pass time is walking on the rocks right in front of the place and watching all of the sea turtles hang out...it must be a popular sea-turtle meating place...unbelieveable! We would highly recommend this place. It's decorated like the island and cozy. If you enjoy falling asleep to the ocean waves and waking up in the morning to the views of the Pacific, and experiencing what the big island has to offer...than this place is perfect. I stayed at Kona Nalu #303 for my honeymoon and what a magical time we had. From the perfect ocean front lanai with sweeping views of the ocean as far as the eye can see. To the beautiful sunsets each evening. We highly recommend pouring a maiti right before sunset and gather around your private waterfront lanai and just enjoy the tropical breezes and view. It actually became our evening ritual, after a long day of sun and fun. Just to the right of the property is a wonderful snorkeling spot called Turtle Cove. Where you can see all sorts of tropical fish and get quite a suntan... The unit is decorated with tropical flare with local beautiful paintings of Kona, freshly painted calming rooms. A full unobstructed view of the ocean from the living room and master...and so much more! We hope everyone can enjoy the magic of Kona Nalu #303!

We stayed for 5 nights in room 303. This condo is well appointed, clean and generally well kept. Over very pleasing and pretty well decorated. The ocean front view is perfection, you can't get much closer to the ocean. The grounds are minimal with a small pool but for us that was irrelevant since you could literally touch the ocean sitting on your large lanai. The value was pretty good considering the size of the room and location, less then two miles from Kona with ocean front from the living room and master bedroom. Only problem were the incessentants ants on the kitchen counters and I don't mean a few, I mean scores. It's a bit difficult to prepare food with one hand and wage war on the ants with the other. Throw in a daily sighting of a large cockroach or two and that really tempered our enthusiasm. My favorite was when one drppoed on my head as I closed the bathroom door or was it when we chased one out of my wifes suitcase with a flipflop...oh so many memories. Sunquest didn't seem to concerned when we told them about the problem. They told us not to leave food on the counter, which we hadn't. If that issue was resolved I would give them an unqualified recommendation. Over all many positives, add some regular visits by an exterminator and this property becomes top notch. Otherwise, bring your "Raid" and enjoy. Also, they really need to fix the elevator it rumbles like a car with bad timing between the second and third floor. Finally, the question of would we stay their again? I rated this property 4 stars but the bugs truly bring it down to a 2 or 3 star. I have spoken to the property manager since our return and they indicated there would be an improvement. With so many positives I would hope they would reslove some very simple issues and we could become regulars.
