We travelled to the hotel mid week in June. Upon arriving at 1pm, staff was not prepared for us and also claimed that they did not have our reservation. When they were informed it was thru a 3rd party (expedia), the gentleman helping us took an condescending tone towards us and proceeded to tell us why we shouldn't use a 3rd party and that NO room was available for us as of yet (mind you no one was there the place was empty of guests at that time). They had us come back at 3pm to check in. Based on that first impression, I wanted to cancel and find another place, but I decided to stick it out. When we came back, we were offered the comp. wine, and we told that we don't drink it was taken back and nothing was given in its place. The room we got was an upgrade and had nice furnishings, but the tile/wood working is older. The "flat screen TV" was 12-14 inches big, so if you have other things to occupy your evenings with plan to do them! They only have 10 rooms, which is great for using the hot tubs. The restaurant is closed for dinner on Mondays and Tuesdays which was not listed on their website nor told to us until I came down to book a reservation. Staff member took the initiative to book a reservation for us elsewhere. We did have issues with the phone in our room not working then after a helpful staff member showed me how to fix it, the phone kept ringing one-three times throughout our stay. The breakfast was WONDERFUL and included in our stay. All in all it was nice, but there were too many ups and downs with this place, not cohesive enough for me.

Sophisticated, Exceptional
By lightdance, 05/04/09
We stumbled onto the Stevenswood from the recommendation of a Mendocino local. We had just driven up from the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay. We found the staff in the lodge and the restaurant to be every bit as attentive and welcoming as that of the Ritz. The decor was sophisticated yet appropriate for the beautiful natural setting. Our dinner in the restaurant was exceptional. We are frequent travelers with high expectations. I would strongly recommend the Stevenswood.

Great Get-Way!!

It takes a while to get there from the airport. The drive, while stunning is a bit long and tedious at times, but overall worth the effort. The lodge is a timber structure set in a deep quiet forest against the backdrop of a pacific ocean meadow and several state parks. Very serene. Mineral baths and sauna are the perfect contrast to the rugged surroundings. We enjoyed a custom picnic on the ocean bluffs just a few minutes walk from our room, had an INCREDIBLE meal in their onsite world-class restaurant, we were blown away by the free breakfast and lounged in the luxury spa after amazing body and skin treatments. Our dog Maggie had a nice stay too and loved chasing birds and wildlife around the resort. The cool redwoods and evening mist made a pefect respite from the hot inland valley where we live. We almost hate to share the experience since once the word get's out about Stevenswood they will no doubt double the room rates!
