I relly enjoyed it
By truth, 06/01/09
I loved that it overlooked the river and that the room was so close to nature. The restaurant could get rid of the fake bird calls .

Would definitely go back...
By Margret, 04/16/09
My husband and I ate breakfast there last Labor Day weekend and it was fabulous food.We ate on the deck out back and the atmosphere was so relaxing. This is not to say it was a cheap breakfast,if that's what you want go to McDonalds.Normally we don't pay 30$ plus tip for breakfast, especially traveling, but this day my nerves were frazzled driving from Monterey on the PCH.We stopped knowing nothing about the place,we loved everything about it and would most decidedly go back.

WAY Overpriced!!
By Michael, 11/17/08
One beer (16 oz. draft, plastic cup) one mimosa (6 oz. plastic cup) cost us $13.95 plus tip. I would expect a high price in an establishment such as this, but the 6 oz. plastic cup of orange juice and splash of bubbly? I'll never spend a dime there again. This place sucks. I can't believe the crowd that eats there. Are you all THAT hungry? Or, maybe you just have money to burn.

Eating with Flies and Nats?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/08/08
The resturant SUCKS!! If you like to be inside to stay away from bugs and creepy crawly things then dont eat at this resturant! Sitting in the resturant and fighting to be the only one eating your food is not something you expect when there food is priced as it is. I went to this restuarant today granted the surroundings are breathe taking but the resturant and it ownership SUCK!!! They do not like OUT of towners.. If your a Hippie this is the place for you and they will roll out the red carpet. But if you are like my family and stay in 4 star resorts then they want nothing to do with you or your "City Money". I tried to enjoy a lunch at this resturant INDOORS and was attacked constantly by flies and nats the entire time I sat at the table. When the food arrived I couldnt even enjoy it cause I was so busy pushing the flies off the plates and from landing in my hair and buzing in my ear. When we attempted to contact the Manager and OWNER of the resturant (Hippie Lady) and inform them of the issue they didnt like what we had to say and so I grabbed my moms purse and was ready to leave and the OWNER start YELLING at the top of her lungs that we could just go ahead and DINE AND DASH.. she was going to write down our "Licence Plate Number" I had to remind this "Hippie" that in AMERICA in order to dine and dash you must actually DINE which we had not. She then informed me that we could " Take your asses back to the city" which we then did.. NEWS FLASH if your not a hippie or tree hugger they dont want you in this resturant and do not cater to "City Folk" but yet charge prices like they are on Madison and Fifth in New York... Bottom line STAY AWAY!! Or eat with the flies!!!!

Get Ripped Off Big Time in Big Sur
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/21/07
I recently stayed one night at this place and according to the website, dinner & breakfast are included with the "Winter Return" package. I paid $175 + tax per night for the package and when I got to the hotel I was told drinks & deserts are extra as well as an 18% service charge added to the bill. Also, certain dishes cost extra. Dinner for two ended up costing $25, even though it was supposed to be at no charge. The website advertised a heated pool, which was closed, there was no TV or coffee maker in the room & no shelf in the bathroom. Also the light bulb was missing in the closet. The clock/radio by the bed did not pick up a single station. The room is typical of a 1 star motel with no amenities. Breakfast does not start until 8am and residents are locked outside in the cold until the restaurant door is opened. This place offers glorified camping at a ridiculously high price. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

location was perfect
By travel qa, 10/25/07
The location was perfect and the staff went out of their way to assist us with information on ski packages, tours and shopping. The service was great! The complimentary breakfast was a real treat and a money saver. We met other guests from all over the United States and enjoyed visiting with them.

Leaves much to be desired
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/07/07
The food is lousy and very overpriced along with a nasty waitstaff and particular hostess on Sunday's. The office help I spoke to was not very nice either. The rooms are over priced and dirty even thought they claim to be recently remodeled. I don't recommend it at all!

Stay for the Music...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/07/06
After reading the reviews it seems like it pans out this way... Restaruant incosistant Lodging run down... I have been to the River Inn for both lunch and dinner over the past 15 years. We stay at the campsite down the road, have never slept over at the inn....but.. I can tell you my experience has been great! We just got back from Sunday Lunch, on Aug 6th. While they were packed and the service slow, the wait staff was on thier game and the music was great. We enjoyed a delicous salad and salmon sandwhich and for a family of four with no booze but two appitizers and tip came to $108 for the meal. So while not cheap, the ambiance can not be be, a underlying theme I see here. My suggestion would be, to ask to see the room before your take it, sounds like they vary in quality, and introduce yourself to the hostess, let her know , you've read the reviews and they have been mixed, BUT YOUR HOPING for the Great time... you'd be amazed how this changes things..btw , I have used this at many places, wheater they have reviews or not. The thing about the big river is this.. It's so great of location , with the shops, the river, the whole package, I really can't say anything bad about this place...Going back soon!

Never Again......
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/30/05
The waiters acted like they could not care about your comfort. The bartender was too busy trying to impress some local girl. And the food was terrible. I would not eat there if the food was FREE !!! You really do not need good food if you have the location & the set-up that they do. Chairs in the river are cool. They do have Wi-Fi access for free.
