Best Western Shenzhen Felicity Hotel - Free Internet!, Shenzhen

Good internet connection, so-so english speaking staff, ok american food, poor movie selection, felt like an average best western in USA. I was repeatedly warned by my china counterparts that the area is dangerous due to the train/bus station near by attracting pick-pockets, theives, etc. They said the day time is fine, but night time is not good.

I was staying here in January '08 and was very disappointed. This hotel represented extremely poor value and we received the usual disinterested one expects in China, but not in an allegedly 5 Star facility. It's extremely run-down, and has an oddly police-state construction. It is almost impossible to enter as it's protected by boom gates from the street, making it difficult to get a taxi, or for a taxi to drop you at the door. The parking area at the front of the hotel is filled with tour buses who show a complete lack of regard for guests walking, and is in fact downright dangerous. Surly staff avoid your eye and invariably answer all requests with a "No". When I asked for a map of the area I was told that no English map was available, but I could purchase one at a nearby store (I couldn't, as it turned out). What kind of hotel, let alone a 5 star one, doesn't have a map for guests? I eventually got a map in the lobby of the nearby Shangri La (thanks guys!), handed over freely and cheerfully by desk staff there. Don't stay at this hotel until they fix up their act and get some decent management. Best Western should be ashamed of themselves.

Again, no swimming. Pool closed Room is very nice. But do not like the bunch of beggers following me when I walk to MacDonalds. But taxis got stuck at the bottle neck traffic every day when I was going north to any Shenzhen factories. Cannot use their business center computers. Too slow. Unable to find any internet cafe nearby.

Firstly - very difficult to find the hotel from Lowu station considering there are no maps to assist and most people don't speak English. Very easy and quick to find the hotel once you figure out how! But just be prepared to walk up and down stairs with your luggage to get there. Staff helpful to an extent. Poor English skills are frustrating if you would like to book a tour or seek directions. As a result we ended up walking around Lowu shopping centre for the entire 3 days we were there. If you need instructions - make sure you drop into the Shangri-La as there staff were really helpful. In fact, it was thanks to them that we found the hotel as they arranged a car to drop us off. The BW Felicity doesn't have a shuttle but its close enough to the shopping centre that you don't need one. Harder on the way home when you've had a full day of shopping and need to climb up and down steps for most of the 5 mins walk back to the hotel. Rooms were nice and very clean. Housekeeping staff very friendly but didn't really speak English. Pool area okay - but not flash. Overall, we'd stay again - as we'll be able to find next time!!! To the management at Best Western - do yourselves a favour... send out booking confirmations with maps!

I had stayed in quite a few 5-stars hotels in Shenzhen. Best Western Shenzhen Felicity can be rated 5-stars in most areas but the rooms are sorely needed for more upgrading. Restuarant food is so-so though there is a great music lounge at the front lobby.

I waited 30 minutes for a woman at the front desk to exchange my currency! She kept taking care of other customers who were checking out, when there were other attendants who were free to do check out, and kept putting me off. She turned around once and told me to go down the street to a bank instead. I told her the bank was closed and that as a paying customer I had the right to use the services of money exchange. The staff insisted that she was the only one who was able to exchange money and that I would just have to wait. Finally after 25 minutes she came over in a huff and told me that exchanging traveler's checks was inconvenient for her. It took her only a minute to change in the money in the end! I was also put off by the front desk clerks who were VERY rude and made our whole MBA student group feel very unwelcome.
