Don't Go. If you do, don't get Room Service!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/29/10
I didn't stay but I had a horrendous time with room service trying to buy a gift for someone that did. Family members were staying the night in the hotel and I wanted to have a bottle of wine waiting for them as a birthday present. I was connected with room service and placed an order for a $50 bottle of wine to be put into their room. When I spoke with them when they returned home, I found out they hadn’t received the wine. I contacted the hotel and they were apologetic and said they would look into it. I just wanted to be sure I was reimbursed for it. They called me back but couldn’t explain what happened. I assumed it was the end until I realized I had never been reimbursed. I called again. The manager pretty much called me a liar and needed to talk to the person staying at the hotel. Not only did my family member not get a gift but now they had to be interrogated by the hotel. After a total of about five phone calls, I was told I would be reimbursed. A week later, after I found out that I still hadn’t been reimbursed, I contacted the general manager of the hotel. I spoke with an assistant who said she would look into it. I said I would like to be reimbursed and I would like the person who was to receive the gift to get a gift certificate to compensate for their errors and our trouble. She called me back. I would finally be reimbursed and I was being sent a gift certificate for the person who was to receive the wine for $38. That’s right, $38. They took all of their fees from the original gift costs and were giving me the difference. Seriously, how tacky is that! This is supposed to be one of the finest hotels in the city and they decide giving a gift certificate of $38 to make up for their errors is appropriate. I will never have anything to do with this hotel again. I know it was a small amount of money but their behavior and the amount of time it took to get my money back, was ridiculous. And now I’m stuck with the $38 gift certificate because nobody I’m related to or friends with plan on ever going there again either. Hope it was worth the $12 the hotel saved.

The Gem of Philadelphia
By Michael, 11/24/09
My wife and I have visited the Rittenhouse several times and cannot see ourselves staying anywhere else in Philadelphia. We have been to the spa, eaten at Lacroix and had drinks at the bar. Everything has been wonderful. Most wonderful to me has been the service. We've gotten to the point where we recognize the concierge and bellhop staff when we visit. To me, that signals that they all stood out. Requests have always been answered quickly and courteously. The building itself is small and quiet, a little out of the way, while still being in a wonderful neighborhood in Philly. While it is not cheap by any means, I find that it compares favorably to the upscale stand-bys from Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons while offering the same luxury and better service. So, in the future, my wife and I will continue to go to the Rittenhouse.

Oh, the Rittenhouse...
By Benji, 04/26/08
This is most likely the nicest hotel in which I have stayed. The employees are friendly and helpful, the hotel is very clean, it's in a beautiful area, and everything is prompt and never late. The staff is very open to helping, and there is never a hint of rudeness. The price is a bit expensive but it is worth it. The room was extremely comfortable: the bed was perfect, I had an amazing view, the decor was stylish and welcoming. There is no other place I'd rather stay whilst in Philadelphia.

A little known treasure!
By Light, 02/09/08
My family and I attend the Penn Relays at Franklin field- Univ. of Penn annually and we never knew about the Rittenhouse Hotel. On a whim, we tried it in 2007 and were pleasantly surprised! The hotel is beautifully decorated and the staff was more than helpful with giving directions to the field and assisting with our every need. The room was beautifully appointed, so much so I took pictures for ideas in my own home. Though the hotel is a little more pricey than most, it was well worth it! We had dinner at one of the on sight restaurants and, at a moments notice, they helped me give my mom a surprise birthday party! I can't say enough about The Rittenhouse...try it...you'll like it! Sincerely, Tara

Not a Good Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/09/07
The maid was cleaning our room after 8:00PM & we had to wait till she was done approx. 1hr.,since we had been at a near by hospital most of the day it was very upsetting. After having my car in the valet parking for the 3 days I was at the RH, I discovered my car 1999 BMW's paint had been touched up in little globs. After I realized this I called the RH & was told someone would call me back, but I am still waiting

Disappointed, I can't believe it either!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/19/07
I have had great dinners at LaCroix. The most recent visit was terrible. I had been flattered by their service in the past and this time the service was not there. We were seated and the host did not come for 10 minutes! The sommelier did not come to the table. Our food was brought and dropped off. No "enjoy" or description of the plate. My fork was taken, my food served and I had to flag down a wait staff to get one. At that point, my night was ruined. the service was unacceptable for an establishment such as this. I can dine anywhere in the city. They comped us some dessert and port one, but it was no kid. Here's the kicker. I pick up my car, get in and a piece of carpet 4 ft long and 1 ft wide comes flying down on top of my car and onto the ground. I said to the gentlman parking cars" hey that hit my car. He laughed. I will not be eating there again and will tell my collegues to avoid it as well.

Beatuiful Decorating!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/26/06
I loved how this hotel decorated, especialy for Philadelphia! I live about an hour and a half away from Philly, and I felt like I was in Hawaii! It was clean, sevice was better than a 5 star hotel! But location was so-so, nothing great, exsept if your into clubs and stuff. The beds were luxurious and fun, fluffy sheets and pillows. It was a very good stay over all.
