Rude and Unprofessional
By Rachel, 01/15/10
I strongly advise against planning a wedding at Garth Woodside Mansion. Julie the owner treated me as if I were trying to make simple dinner reservations instead of planning a wedding. She accused me of asking too many questions and said that she would prefer that I plan my wedding elsewhere. This was said after I had scheduled an appointment with her to sit down and sign a contract with the deposit. It would be natural to have many questions anyway (Room accommodations, out of town guests, the reception and costs etc) but I was forced to ask more because setting up a time to meet in person, or have Julie send pictures of bouquets and cakes was like pulling teeth. “Wedding consultation” services are included in each wedding package but Julie the owner should realize that some of this process begins even before a contract is signed. I’m assuming because I had a small wedding planned (20 People) that I was not worth the hassle even though I made it very clear I was serious about moving forward. Julie should stick to running an Inn and hire a professional to handle the wedding planning. Perhaps someone that does not clearly get exasperated with normal wedding planning questions. Another Note: Beware of extra fees. ie if you prefer to use your own photographer there is a $300.00 fee.

Rude service-Go elsewhere!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/31/09
We stopped by to check out the facilities and ask for information. I agree with the other reviews: the innkeeper was rude and made it clear that he had more important things to do. When we asked about reservations, he told us to look on the internet and showed us the door. Why would anyone accept this kind of treatment?

Perfect - Idyllic - Great for Families!
By Fairness, 04/20/09
This was the perfect B&B! Every detail was handled by the owners so that our three day stay was utterly comfortable, relaxing, and fun! The food was creative and delicious and the service was impeccable. The Woodside Cottage was extremely comfortable, beautifully decorated, and had everything we could need. The owners and staff we attentive and extremely friendly. Our two children, boys ages 11 and 8, really enjoyed the llamas and the dining. Julie and John are delightful and clearly love what they do. I cannot say enough about what a pleasant mini-vacation this was for our family, and how outstanding everything was at the Garth Mansion. We plan on making this an annual excursion.

Fabulous Experience! Exceeded our Expectations!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/15/08
We just returned from an 18th wedding anniversary weekend at Garth Woodside Mansion in lovely Hannibal, Missouri. The experience exceeded our expectations. Our room, the Country Fair, located on the third floor of the mansion offered an elegant, but comfy and cozy experience. We enjoyed the relaxing CD as we drifted off to sleep. Our view to the East and South of the Garth estate overlooked the stately oaks and brightly colors flower gardens. The food at the Mansion was extraordinary! Our breakfasts were served in the elegant Woodside Restaurant. We had a special treat one morning, when a grey fox leisurely strolled across the back field. With our view from the Woodside, we were able to watch the fox for the longest time, without disturbing him in the least. Our Saturday evening dinner was delicious and served in an elegant atmosphere; the wines were some of the best that we have tasted. Julie, John, and Shawn are so gracious and looked after our every need. Thank you for creating such great memories for us!

Just what we needed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/27/07
We stayed three nights at Garth Woodside Mansion to get away from the stress of our every day life. Nestled just outside of Hannibal, we hid away in our room. I recommend having dinner there as the chef is super. The innkeepers took care of everything before we even asked for it. I would easily send anyone there for a perfect and relaxing stay. Schedule a massage before you arrive as they only have one massage gal on site and boy is she great. They showed us the cottage and next time we are trying one of those. They looked beautiful.

relaxing elegance
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/29/06
My husband and I recently stayed and had a wonderful experience! The owners very friendly and went above and beyond to meet our needs! Beautiful and decorated with amazing antiques. Dinner was exceptional and so was the waiter also thier son! Jacuzzi worked just fine, you just have to read the directions (disagree with previous review). Breakfast was 4 courses so delicious and formal. We had our own table over looking the property and their lamas. The owner even ran out without a coat on to feed them so we could watch them while we ate. Deer and turkeys come up to the property off and on. Many details in the room that go above and beyond!! Not sure how anyone would have anything negative to say about this place or the service. Very Elegant and Relaxing getaway!

worst experience ever
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/07/06
a couple of years ago I was on a FEMA assignment to work with the state of Missouri, aiding in repairs from tornado's and floods. I choose the B&B due to where my work location was going to be, and negoiated my daily rate with the owners before heading there. the first few weeks were fine I work 7 days a week and was on my own. after the first 30 days, the owners started to apply continual pressure to pay or leave, knowing that when asked I paid. it got so bad that after 60 days there were daily arguments, the owners argued with me in front of the other guests, finally I was told to leave they needed full paying customers. after 60 days on average I was one of the few weekly guests. Upon leaving I reported this to Federal travel, also the North American B&B association. I wouldn'y recommend this place to my worst enemy, and wonder how they manage to stay in business michael farnham

Way over the top!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/08/06
Warm cookies when we checked in started our weekend and kept getting better every minute. Wife had a massage after we came back from town. Dinner in the new restaurant was one of the best meals, if not the very best meals we have ever had out. Feather beds make it hard to get out of bed, but the banana bread tugs you out. We were in Samuel Clemens Room and were able to see the deer out the window when we woke up. (John feeds them as well at breakfast, too). We were given a guide book for B&B's all over the country, states price was $15.95, and was a gift to us. Never stayed at any B&B twice, but will this one. John, Julie, Sheana and Sean are the best innkeepers.

Inn Keeper needs to find new job
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/14/05
Innkeeper is rude breakfast is poor rooms are overpriced My husband and I have been to a few bed and breakfasts and we did not enjoy this Inn. The innkeeper was rude and always seemed to have something more important to be doing than tending to her guests. I feel that when you pay over $200 for a room service should be top and it was not.
