BED BUGS!
My fiance and I booked a room at the Marriot for us and some friends of ours for a wedding. Upon first glance, the hotel was just as it should be. It was clean, tidy, with fresh towels and sheets. (I check the sheets immediately in every hotel I stay in. I've had some horriffic experiences.) After our wedding, as we are all trying to sleep, we noticed the toilet would begin running every 3 or 4 minutes and it was LOUD. Keep in mind, we were all coming from wedding and we were exhausted and our toilet STILL kept us up all night. Upon checkout, we mentioned it to the woman at the front desk and she discounted our room. This was fine for us. I returned back to my room to grab a few last minute items and noticed a blood smear on the sheets. This had not been there the night before. As my fiance and I were discussing where in the world this may have come from, I noticed a tiny, flat, oval, brown bug crawling on the sheets. It was a BED BUG. And from what I know of bed bugs, they work like mosquitos feeding on blood. Hence the blood smear. I immediately scooped it up in a napkin and brought it to the woman at the front desk. I was DISGUSTED. The woman immediately comped our room. Now, I am not a person looking for handouts. I do, however, find it odd that anyone would think that sleeping in a bug infested bed (among the other issue!) is worth only a free stay for the night. We should have been offered at LEAST one extra night at our leisure. I slept in a bug infested bed for crying out loud! What little I slept anyway. Not to mention, after a few hour drive home, I made the mistake of throwing our overnight bag on our bed and began unpacking. Since then, my fiance and I have had our own bed bug battle in our house. Not to mention the nasty itchy little bites we have all over our bodies. After trial and error, we realized this is not a problem we can handle on our own and now we have to call an exterminator. So thank you Marriot for the free night in a bug infested bed and the countless nights I have stayed in one since. We won't be returning.
