The place was very clean and everyone was very nice. The SPA was just perfect. I would go back to this comfort inn

The only good thing about this place was the fact it wasn't over crowded due to the boardwalk. I came up to Santa Cruz for the Wharf to Wharf and couldn't believe how horrific the rooms and service was! At first arrival the hotel staff was rude and constantly yelling at us when asking what time check in would be. Once we finally got our room, inside the chair was broken, the microwave door stuck, the light wouldn't work, and even the toliet kept running and would barely flush! Also the walls were so thin we heard screaming, yelling, and had to bare with knocking on our door at random hours! If you thought that was a nightmare wait til we tried to politely notify the staff of the room issues. Not only were we lied to by the manager's wife, but also the other person working the night shift. They promised to tell the manager the problems so I could talk to him in the morning. When check out came the next day his wife told us that he had called us about the complaints and offered to fix and change rooms. (not once did we see or here from him the entire trip) Also the women yelled at us for saying we never received his call. And that he was now "out of town" so she would write down the number and the complaints and he would call as soon as he got back at 3 pm. Well it came to 10 pm the same day and no phone call. I call the hotel back asking about the manager, and the lady picks up and tells me he was actually working during our check out and leaves at 3pm each day! In addition to that the wife didn't even write down my telephone number or complaints! So I was lied to, yelled at, and had to sleep in a noisy and broken room.

I have stayed here before and generally liked the place. However, the last time I stayed here, there was feces on our bath towels! The hotel did apologize, but the general manager was generally dismissive of the situation (he offered us 20% off- he must have been kidding!). I will never stay at this hotel again!

My wife and I stayed here Aug 12-14, 2009. What we liked - the price. This hotel is next door to the Best Western and Holiday Inn Express. It's across the street from Hampton Inns. Those hotels wanted $100, $170, and $200 a night respectively, the Comfort Inn only cost us $86. The rooms were clean and the beds were actually comfortable. We ended up in two different rooms because we extended our stay by 1 night. The first had a jetted tub, which my wife liked but found the jets too noisy. The second was laid out better and had a nice flat screen tv, no jets in the tub though. My wife wanted more water pressure in the shower but I was fine. There were spots in each room that could have used maintenance but overall they were clean and comfortable - we were happy with what we got. The free breakfast in the morning was nothing fancy but was adequate. They have 2 waffle makers so you can make a fresh waffle for yourself, bagels, danishes, cereal, juices, baby cheeses, fresh fruit, and different breads for toast. That seemed pretty comparable with what the other hotels were offering (other than the Holiday Inn Express which had actual eggs and sausages at their breakfast). We didn't use the pool but they do have one even though it's a bit on the small side. Just one other note, on the map you'll see it's near the freeway, however because of the way the highway curves noise from traffic was not an issue at all. I saw someone else mention the same thing in their review and wanted to reiterate it. The location is in fact very convenient. We'd definitely stay there again.

I'm neither the associates nor fan for the brand in particular, just a regular walk-ins. Many bad places got top votes, ever wonder why? Try it for yourself, look around before you check-in even. This place has the killer deals on the non-festival days, and booking in advance can give you just that. Have fun sorting thru the price war flamin'-!

It was my first time there, thought it was an old place, but they did renovated! I walked in on the weekends, yet the price seemed comparable to the rest. Decided to check-in after a few check-around, because the available 2nd floor room. Got in the 218, plenty of parking in the back right around 5pm. Went out to get some grubs, came back later to see that all the parking was gone. A front desk staff assisted me to the available space afterwards, with a fair advice on the place of interests. Went down to check-out the pool, nice and warm it was, so that's a plus. The sauna was slow to warm up, but it works. Went to bed around 10pm, still a large group of arrivals checking in, but quiet down after about half an hour. Checking out the next morning, another plus for neatly arranged breakfast provided in the kitchen out front. Will be back next year probably...

I needed a place to stay while playing golf at De Laveaga golf course. This place was real nice. King bed, marble bath, fresh paint, nice breakfast room, quiet, good location to golf course, good value. I would definately stay here again.

First, I was impressed that the bedding and interior design was modern (no florals, thank goodness). The room was extrememly comfortable, and although getting to the hotel from HWY 1 is a bit tricky -- once you get the route down it's a great location. We were able to get to downtown in about three minutes flat. The bathroom was very nice, complete with granite countertop and hair dryer. The pillows were excellent (suspect they were down or down-alternative), and the refrigerator was larger than expected. There were a few small problems. When I opened the nightstand drawer there was a sealed condom box. Now, that's pretty bad and the cleaning staff should be more careful (hence my lower cleanliness rating). Beyond that oversight, the room was very clean and fresh (esp. since it was a smoking room). There seems to be a trend with damaged doors in Santa Cruz hotels. The bathroom door wouldn't latch and the front door was somewhat a poor fit too (although it was still secure). The wireless signal in my room was poor so I'd advise taking your own ethernet cable and connecting directly to the router. Also, there wasn't a DVD player, but with front Aux connections on the tv I'd recommend bringing your own portable. Overall, for the price, this hotel is a excellent value. The staff was also pleasant. If you are looking for a budget hotel with decent amenities, this one is a deal.

We stayed in a wonderful king bed room, with stained glass window. No problem with check in. We did have a $100.00 deposit since we used travelocity to book the room. The breakfast was a nice variety. They had cereal, fruit, cheese, juice, coffee and a waffle maker to make your own waffles. I will be staying here next time I come to Santa Cruz.

The woman at the front desk was incredibly rude. She should not be a service oriented position. I forgot an item in my room and called after I checked out only to be told that the item was not there. I insisted that it was and checked again the next day but was told again my item was not there so obviously the staff cannot be trusted. It was also very noisy with a group of people standing outside our room talking very loudly until around 3 in the morning. If you don't need sleep and want to be treated rudely, by all means stay here. Just don't leave anything behind.
