Why we would never go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/09/10
I had travelled to Bakersfield to visit my son whom I had not seen for 10 years. I made an on-line reservation at the Marriott for two nights at the rate of $79 per night, but informed the desk clerk on arrival that I may need to extend my stay. He assurred me there would be no problem. As it turned out, my visit went well and I decided to extend one night. After the second night I informed the desk clerk (a different clerk this time) that I needed to extend one night. She assurred me that there was no problem, which was obvious since the hotel appeared to be nearly vacant. I saw no other guests around and the parking lot was nearly empty all night. But we were informed that third night would be $113. When it was pointed out that I could have initially reserved all three nights for the lower rate, the she was very indifferent, and gave a "take it or leave it" attitude. So I told her to disregard the extension. When I told her I would check out and go elsewhere she shrugged her shoulders and told me to "Have a nice day." I then went back to the room and reserved that night at the Sheridan down the street for $70. Then, when I turned in my key she repeated, "Have a nice day" without looking up or making eye contact. Actually, it was not so much the money but rather the clerks impersonal attitude that offended me. She obviously did not care about the guests, and had no regard for the image of the hotel. Our last night at the Sheridan was terrific and the staff was very polite caring.

Ear Plugs are Required! Noisy!
By Kevin, 05/05/09
No where does your hotel information let a perspective customer know that there is a train switching yard approx. 100 yards away. They start moving the trains at 4:30 EVERY morning and don't stop until sometime in the evening. Blowing whistles and everything in the room vibrating is not real conducive to getting a good nights sleep. You have a wonderful hotel in a terrible location and for that reason I will not be recommending your hotel to anyone that travels to Bakersfield. For the price we paid, we got screwed. I could have gone to Extended Stay across the freeway for $54.00 a night and listened to the same trains, you do the math.

Great Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/27/07
My family liked this place because we stay here when we visit family in Bakersfield. There is a swimming pool, an excellent serve yourself breakfast, and lots of room in the rooms. It was quiet and clean, and we've never had a problem here.

GREAT!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/29/07
My husband and I had a social event to attend in Bakersfield. We looked up the location of the event and discovered that the Residence Inn was walking distance from the event. Based on that alone, we made reservations (got the Auto Club discount). The room was FANTASTIC! Spotlessly clean, VERY comfortable bed, fireplace & kitchenette (wasn't expecting that!). We thought we were getting "just a room," but we got a little home. It was very comfortable. The staff was very helpful, friendly and polite. We're planning a family reunion on the East Coast this summer, and have decided to use a Residence Inn because we were so pleased with this experience.

Staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/19/06
the staff needs to improve in there attitude at the front desk, starting with the Manager. However there were two person who were always helpful at all times. Also there are services available but only to certain guest. It's not an equal thing.
