Not Great
By ,
The location of this hotel is good and the lobby is nice, but the rooms are dated. It was never mentioned that the parking would be $32.00 a day for valet and $24.00 to self park. Some of the front desk staff was nice and some just okay. I doubt I will stay here again.

Hotel review and cheap parking tips
By ,
Hotel was fine. Enjoyed it. No problems. Parking costs $30 but I paid $5 for the entire weekend. How? There is a parking garage right beside the hotel (on same block and right before the hotel valet parking) that costs $5 per day. You have to be out by 9 pm or 10 pm approx. No overnight parking. But parking on the street is free after 6 pm or 8 pm (read the signs). Also sunday street parking is free all day. So there is no need at all to pay parking at the Westin at $30 per day.

Definitely will not be back
By ,
The problems started as soon as we arrived at the reservation desk. After dealing with a very inexperienced, unfriendly clerk we were told parking would be $32 per day (insane), we were told that they wouldn't accept our federal tax exemption status (beware other Credit Unions out there!!!) and we couldn't use the luggage carts. So after carrying my luggage since I couldn't use a cart I went up to my room only to find the electrical on the entire left half of the room didn't work. Breakfast is not provided, Q-tips and cotton balls aren't even provided. I have complained to the manager and I complained to corporate and cannot even get a call back to get the tax exemption cleared up. They had three conventions going on at the same time and so there was a lot of lobby traffic and people wandering throughout the hotel. Definitely not family friendly. Although I will be traveling to San Diego a lot for work I will definitely not be staying at this hotel!!!

Had a nice experience
By ,
Thanks to the previous reviews I was aware of the high parking costs, so we made arrangements to have our car parked elsewhere and rode the trolley which is less than 3 minutes away. The front desk, bar, and room service attendants where all very pleasant and cheerful. The room was clean (it smelled clean too) and comfortable. The overall hotel was nice. Oh, the pool is small but quaint.

Pleasant stay
By ,
My husband and I stayed at the Westin San Diego for a getaway weekend. Yes, you do have to pay for parking, it is in downtown and more of a business hotel, but the room and bathroom were clean, the valets and concierge were helpful. We didn't eat the buffet breakfast, but had coffee and pastry at the Aroma cafe - that was plenty. It was easy to get our car in and out. Maybe this isn't a hotel for families with young kids, but it worked for us!

NEVER AGAIN!
By ,
We did not enjoy our stay at the Westin Horton. The bathroom was dirty around the floorboards, the paper cups had obviously been previously used, and the coffee creamers had expired. But the worse thing was the Valet Parking. We had not been told it would cost $32, though the staff insisted we had been. Then my personal care attendant told the Valet NOT to take his keys as he needed them to operate the wheelchair lift to get me out of the van when he returned from checking us in. The man took the keys anyway, as it was "policy" not to leave them in the ignition. Next morning -- despite that "policy" -- the Valet put the keys in the ignition, the door blew shut, and they were locked in the van with no way for Mark to get in, much less work the lift to get me in. To add insult to injury, the Valet asked Mark who HE wanted to call to fix the problem! We couldn't get on our way for about an hour. Although the cups and creamers were replaced, the $32 was returned, and apologies were offered, it didn't salvage our trip or make us any more inclined to ever stay there again. The only bright spots were the big screen TV, although it offered few channels of interest, and the wonderful Porter who brought our luggage in and took it out. His service was really outstanding. Well worth the tips he and he alone received!

will not go back
By ,
This was a very nice hotel. The room was very nice and the hotel was located close to all of the local attractions. I probably should have done a little more homework though. I discovred to late that it cost $24.00 a night to park in the hotel parking garage (stayed 2 nights). I also had breakfast at the hotel resturant with my 2 kids. It cost $50.00 for a very small meal. If you are on a budget, you will probably want to stay some place else.

Great central location/will return!
By ,
We were there as a vacation/business trip. It was within walking distance to the Gaslamp and Horton Plaza and the piers! The room was large and very clean. Yes, the bathroom floor was slippery! The bed was very, very comfortable. We stayed on the 12th floor with a bay view... we could see the cruise ships come in and out, very nice. Free shuttle to and from airport was great! We checked in early and when we checked out, we were able to check our luggage at the front desk and reserve the shuttle for our trip to the airport. My husband had a conference until 6 p.m. and our flight was at 10 p.m. so it was nice not to not have to worry about luggage and transportation. Staff was very friendly. Needs frig! Housekeeping was sometimes not until after 5p.m. Which was okay. We didn't eat at hotel, well we did go to the coffee shop. Use public transportion! It is great in this very cool, city Less than 3 bucks to the zoo! Also, Sushi Deli is fantastic. We ate there twice! RA Sushi is just okay.. hotel recommends it.... Go to Old Town for Mexican! I do think that other hotels in the area are more 4 star worthy... just the lobbies alone! The pool and hot tub are outside on the 3rd floor and my husband swam every morning. It is a lap pool not a fancy pool but great for swimming. We got a pretty good deal at this place. If you are looking for comfort, convience, and relaxation, this hotel is pretty nice.

Poor customer service
By ,
I am a frequent business traveler. I stayed at The Westin San Diego during a business trip few weeks ago. Instead of charging the card I presented when checking in, they charged my another card on Starwood file without my authorization. My calls and inqueries were never returned. The room also has a mildew smell, ugh. I will never return.
