Bad Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/25/08
Overall, the service here was terrible. The staff was rude. When we mentioned it, they said, "Sorry you feel this way. We are a 4 diamond hotel and everyone else is happy with us." They obviously have high esteem for their business, not their customers. If you travel here, be aware that you will likely be informed of the "greatness" of their hotel, while experiencing the rudeness of their staff.

One of the best vacation spots
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/15/07
FABULOUS! We were there several years ago on a business trip and are very anxious to plan our return trip coming up in 2008! The area is one of the most beautiful in the country -- La Jolla Cove where the seals gather on the beach is not to be missed!!!

FIRST AND LAST TIME
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/11/07
I booked the hotel on the Hilton's web sit which said I would get a room with a larger tub since I had book the romance pkg. Not only did I NOT get the larger tub but my room was not ready when we check in. Check in time is 3pm. So we check in at 4:30pm. Our strawberry and Champage was suppose be in our room before we got there. We had to wait over 2hrs after we got in our room. Plus the next day they forgot our silver ware with in room dinning in other words the SERVICE was NOT GOOD!! The beds were to soft and the chair needed to get replaced. The people at the check in NEVER smiled once to serious all the time! Made me feel uncomfortable about asking them anything! Food sooo expensive - not worth it. And FAR from any places to eat. Oh, and if you are a coffee drinker - their coffee is the worst I have every tasted in my life! The walls paper thin, you can hear all the noise. If you still choose to book this hotel I would call theme up and MAKE SURE you get what you think you are paying for!!!!

Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/21/07
It has the expense of a luxury hotel but besides from the nice lobby and good food in the restaurant, everything else felt like a standard, middle of the road hotel. In fact, staying at the Comfort Inn & Suites was better as far as room comfort. This is the noisiest hotel I have stayed in by far. The walls are paper thin and I am sitting here listening to a family of kids run and scream above me. Very noisy. Not thinking I am getting the best sleep tonight. Also, don't stay here unless you want to eat at their very expensive restaurant 24/7. There's nothing even close by to grab something to eat. Except for the lovely views and beautiful grounds, I wouldn't rate it any better than say a Holiday Inn.

Rates too high to be "nickeled and dimed"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/03/07
Although the hotel was generally nice, I echo the sentiments of other reviewers who commented on being "nickeled" and "dimed" at every turn. For the money, there are myriad other places that are far more luxurious and welcoming than this hotel, and also with more convenient locations. By the time you add parking ($17-$23 per day), internet ($13-$18 per day), etc., you have spent a hefty sum in addition to the standard room rate that is around $200. The room quality is equivalent to what I have experienced at (much less expensive) 2.5 to 3 star hotels. As badly as I'd like to rate my experience "average" or 3 stars, the expense of the stay simply precludes a higher rating than "poor." If you want luxury and actually deem quality and value important, you are wise to seek lodging elsewhere.

OK, but disappointed
By Rachel, 06/03/07
I too was brought there for work. Good thing because I was disappointed with the value. The bed was comfortable, the room had lovely furnishings. But for the money my company paid, I got a room with an extremely poor view (a hedge and construction equipment) on the first floor. Arriving after a long flight, I was thrilled to see that there was a basket of goodies and bottled water waiting on the dresser. Less thrilled was I when I realized that these were for sale, not complimentary. $3 for the kit-kat, $6 for the bottled water! Went to park the car and guess what - 17 bucks a day to self park in their ramp. Came back and opened up my laptop - no wireless. You could connect to their internet for an additional $13/day - and they would let you use their ethernet cord for $5. Thankfully, I had my own! When I showered I was pleasantly surprised to find that the shampoo at least, did not have a price tag on it. My work is paying for all this at least. But even then, I much prefer a hotel that charges a few extra $ on their rate and does not try to nickel and dime their customers. At the Sheraton I stayed at last time I traveled for work, the rate was comparable - but all of the items above were complimentary!

Better than home
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/02/07
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. I usually am kind of neurotic about staying in hotels but this one was very clean and the bed was more comfortable than mine at home! I would recommend not getting a room close to an elevator due to noise and also not overlooking the pool area for the same reason. All in all, it was a very enjoyable experience.

First timer at Torrey Pines
By Olga, 04/24/07
The rooms are very nicely furnished, great bedding, lots of pillows. Balcony is nice for outdoor seating. The service was very good at front desk. I didnt like the fact that parking was an additional $17 a day. Food in hotel is good and bar is nice and convenient. Pool is very clean and lots of towels and chairs. View from our room was ok, but I had requested a higher floor. I would definitely recommend it if you dont mind exploring the area because it is a bit remote from downtown and other sights. However, hotel does provide a very good map. Free!

WARNING - STAY AWAY.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/17/06
One word best describes the people who work at this Hilton – INCOMPETENT. My family and I came down for a wedding and was completely awed at the poor service and what they called food at their restaurant. None of the housekeepers could help us – due to them not speaking English – and the facilities were shy of total break-down. I beg the tourists of all, do not stay at this hotel and end up regretting paying such an amount for an establishment equal to a Motel 6.

You Call This a Hotel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/17/06
When I was told that my company was holding a function at this hotel, I had very high expectations and thought it was to be a business trip of ease. Boy, was I WRONG! My card key would not work, the food was absolutely dreadful, the operator did not even know what she was doing, and the service was far below par. I was quite pleased that I did not have to use my personal expenses to stay at this terrible establishment they call a "hotel."
