A bit dissatisfied
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/31/09
The location is great, the staff was very friendly and the service was ok. Our non smoking room smelled so strong of smoke we had to have an ionizer brought in. There was no view and the AC unit just outside the window was so loud we could hardly sleep. Valet parking is all they offer at $19 per day, a rip off in my opinon. If the rate looks good watch for hidden and over priced extras

Wouldn't stay again...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/23/07
The accommodations were OK but parking, even to wait for a valet, is a nightmare. We went elsewhere for the final three nights of our stay and felt we got better accommodations with a view of the harbour for about the same price. This is a beautiful hotel and there are simple fixes for these problems. What a shame they haven't figured it out!

Nice Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/2/07
Enjoyed the stay at the Doubletree. My suite was perfect. Valet parking was not a good experience although Doubletree agreed to pay for damages that occurred in the parking lot.

SUPPOSE TO BE NON-SMOKING WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT , ASK TO SEE YOUR ROOM BEFORE STAYING!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/1/07
What a disappointment. My family and I were visitng Charleston for the first time and we were very unhappy with our acomodations here at the Doubletree Inn. When we first arrived at the hotel we thought sure woud be delighted but once we entered our room my family was very disappointed. The room was dark, dreary, smelled of smoke and this was a nonsmoking room keep in mind, however it smelled as if someone had just smoked up the bathroom before we entered. The view from our window was pitiful and nasty. Being as my daughter has asthma I called the front desk immediately. They first told us there were no other rooms available and finally they just happen to locate a room. Housekeeping informed us that there were other rooms available and showed us the room but the front refused to let us have the one we were shown which I must confess was a much nicer room than the one ended up in. We will not stay here again. Word to the wise see your room before staying.

Fantastic location
By no response, 7/29/06
Even though everything in Charleston is pretty much in walking distance (assuming you are in good health) it was great to stay where everthing was 'right there'. The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean and the price was acceptable. Honestly, we were not "blown away" by the Doubletree and it really hit the "acceptable" rating on our scale (which is better than we feel we get in this day and age anywhere). But, due to the location and having no real issues there, we would not hesitate to stay there again. So, if you want to be within 5 walking minutes (from room to destination) to food, tours and great shopping and to be content with where you lay your head, this is the place for you.

Great Hotel!
By Missy D, 7/17/06
My husband & I have stayed at several different Inn's and B&B's in Charleston. However, when it comes to location and service and price this is the best place to stay. If it's your first trip to Charleston, I recommend you stay in a historic inn or B&B. But if you have experienced that, stay at the Doubletree. The room's are very comfortable, the staff is very friendly and helpful and the the location is probably the best in Charleston.

We really liked this hotel - very good location and nice staff. The kids loved the two level suite. We would stay there again.

We loved it!
By LindaM, 9/11/05
The hotel is in the heart of the historic district within walking distance of most attractions. The staff was friendly and helpful. The bedroom was upstairs, very private. Living room/kitchen downstairs, had everything we needed.

Nice but wouldn't go to again
By Twiggy, 9/7/05
I love that the hotel was within walking distance of everything downtown Charleston. The only thing I didn't really like about the hotel was that if you wanted your car taken care of you had to pay for valet parking and that was 16.00 a night. The room was very nice but you had to get a suite to get amnenites like a frig or microwave. I can get that at Wingate Inn a whole lot cheaper.
