Nightmare at the Crowne Plaza
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/14/10
I started planning my dad's 80th birthday in November 2009. His Birthday party was planned for Saturday, 27 March 2010. I made hotel reservations at the Crowne Plaza some time in January. When I went to the hotel to check my parents in before the party (parents were late getting there) I was given their room key, etc., and was told that the plumbing was out, no hot water. I said my parents can't stay here. So they said they would put them up at the Doubletree. So I called mom and dad and told them what happened and they said, "that's O.K., we've already showered, we'll just stay there at the Crowne Plaza." So I went back in line and told them that mom & dad want to keep their room reservation. I told mom & dad when they check in to see Brenda - she knows you decided to stay at the Crowne. By the time mom and dad checked in, Brenda was gone. She relayed the info to the girls at the front desk about my mom and dad staying there afterall. But when my husband went to the hotel to pick up my parents for the Birthday Party, he was told they were not staying there - that they had put them on a shuttle and sent them to the Doubletree. My husband just recently had knee surgery but went to the Doubletree to pick them up.
He was told at the Doubletree that they did not check in and they don't have a reservation. My husband called me and was very upset and said mom and dad are lost - they're not at either hotels. I told my husband they were at the Crowne Plaza. He told the girls at the front desk and the Manager that my parents were dropped off and the bell boy took up their luggage.
They were yelling at my husband and saying "they are not here." At one point they were so mad at my husband they were about ready to kick him out of the Hotel. I went ahead and called the Crowne Hotel and said, "I want to speak with the Manager - she transferred me to his number and I got a recording." I called back and yelled at them not to send me to a voicemail, but to put the manager on this line - do not transfer me!" I never was connected to the manager. I told my husband to call dad on his cell phone. Found out that mom and dad were checked in at the Crown Plaza but the front desk people never entered their names back into the computer. My dad's party started at 6:00pm. I threw this party for my dad and had planned on greeting everyone as they came in, but I arrived late because I had spent so much trying to track down mom and dad. Even worse, everyone else in line was getting a 50% discount if they chose to stay there. I was not given a discount because I had prepaid. I will never, ever, ever stay at this hotel nor refer anyone to do so. We never received an apology, or a discount. We did receive 2 comp breakfast tickets for the next day. I told them "Keep them - Mom and Dad were having breakfast at my house the next day so these would be no good - they were only good for the next day." Business must be booming for them because it didn't seem to bother them that they messed up or ever apologized. The night at the Plaza was a gift for mom & dad to relax before the party, get dressed there, get picked up by my husband to be taken to the Ports O'Call Restaurant, and not have to drive home afterwards. I'll never forget this horrific experience!! You can only imagine what kind of mood I was in by the time I arrived at the party!!
