This is not a picture perfect trip
By jamie, 9/4/10
We were very sick after staying at this resort - the food was fair at best. The best place to eat was the "sports bar" hot dogs, nachos, and burgers. Which is disappointing for an all-inclusive package. The check in process is slow and painful in a hot and humid lobby. The rooms were nice, but the swamp view on the perimeter of the resort was very unattractive. The hotel staff painted the hallways almost daily, so you were stepping over a drop cloth and around a person painting with a roller as you went to your room.

Rip-off on the Riviera
By Dee, 4/17/10
We just got back home last night from a week's stay at one of the worst all inclusive resorts we have ever stayed at. From the moment we got there until the moment we left we had horrible customer service and will NEVER return or recommend this resort to anyone we know. We paid the extra cash to do the "Royal Service" which ended up being a royal pain in the hind end. On our 1st day we were introduced to our "butler" Gabriel who walked us to our buildings. He showed us our building and said that we were on the 3rd floor. He didn't even show us to our room. That was THEE ONLY time we saw our butler. That's the thing with RS- if you request something, you're either told "No" or they'll call you right back and they never do. Every time we called for some assistance from our butler, we were told he had the day off, or was at lunch. We met people from Chile, Canada, South Dakota, Rhode Island, & Boston and they all had the same feedback about what a rip-off RS is and how this was the worst resort they ever stayed at. We save up all this money for 2 years to take a nice vacation, only to feel horrible that we wasted our money. Also, the resort goes on and on about all the restaurants they have - well that don't mention that only 2 are open a night. You could get better service at a Motel 6. The Royal Service was a Royal Scam!!!!!

Cancel yr reservation if you have one.
By Shoes 4 Alice, 4/2/10
Rude staff... no brand name liquors, lies about what was included in the Royal Service package... hidden charges appeared on room bill $40 for sushi, $70 for 1 bottle of wine, $20 to uncork said botttle of wine, $120 for (included) snorkeling... reservations were made and lost ... they ran out of towels more than once.... poor quality food and the RUDEST staff I've ever encountered ... free wireless service was unreliable at best ... "business center" was 3 computers and no printer. I couldn't even print out my boarding passes for the flight home. Staying at home would have been cheaper and much more relaxing.

Beautiful resort and grounds, but WOULD NOT return
By David, 4/9/09
We stayed for a week last March. The resort and grounds are absolutely beautiful and breathtaking...you even have the joy of seeing large lizards scurry by over the walkways at night. However, the bar service is terrible. They are very slow, even when you tip, and don't seem to care who is waiting and for how long. The dinner reservation system is an absolute mess. You wait for an hour just to make dinner reservations (missing breakfast) and when you get to the front, they tell you all restaurants are booked. And, you can only book for THREE days at a time! Then when you walk by one of the restaurants, they're half full! So, they tend to send people to the buffet because it probably saves them money. Lastly, and not to sound too negative, but it's impossible to get rest AND get a chair by the pool or a palapo on the beach. People get up early and slap a book or hat down on a chair, go to breakfast, and then come back to their chair, and leave for lunch, etc. This experience overall did not have the feel of a vacation, but more of a rat race. We are trying Playa Del Carmen this year and hope to have a better experience.

Mixed review
By Austin, 3/3/09
Royal service check in was easy. Although rooms not ready by 3 pm. Royal service pool and bar with king size "bed" cabanas is great! No room service for breakfast. Butler quit on day 3 and no reservations were made for our dinner. Room was nice but halls in building were not cleaned daily, dishes were left by doors for 3 days. Jacuzzi on balcony was awesome! French restaurant was fabulous, service there was impeccable. The other restaurants were merely fair, service not any better that yourt local Applebee's might offer. Our TV was broken when we checked in. We reported it that day. Was still broken until the day before check out. Very disappointing. Beach was great, drink service in Royal Service area was great. Not sure premium liquor used when rtequested, bartenders seemed hesitant. Dont take the "shopping" excursion, malls we went to were 50 % empty. Guide seemed to get a "cut" or why else take us there? Overall, somewhat satisfied with our trip.

Good Value But Watch
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/3/08
We just got back yesterday (Aug 2nd) from a week at this resort. We have some great things to say and some not so great. If you are looking for quiet make sure you book the royal service, there is strictly adult quiet area, pool, bar, spa. Otherwise, there are tons of kids everywhere, restaurants and in all the pools. There is NO ROOM SERVICE from the bar and the mini bar they claim is stocked in your room is only a few shot size bottles in a frig full of soda; it takes an act of congress to get it re-stocked. There is NO BAR SERVICE to the beach area, you must go get your own drinks, although there is a bamboo bar on the beach. We were disapointed in the restaurants although the japanese was good, we ended up sticking to the nightly buffet. The breakfast does not open till 7AM and this is a problem if you have booked a tour that leaves earlier; they send you to the buffet area the nite before and you can get a breakfast sandwich of ham and eggs to go before your tour; this was awfull because they advertise 24 hour room service. ON THE GOOD SIDE; the resort is very well kept, clean and full of mayan culture, the staff is constantly trying to serve you or help you in any way possible. Those with royal service pay more but have their own butler and also must pay more for his/her service for the week. The gift shop has great inexpensive items. The photographer is a rip off and determines the price of the pictures you have had taken each day, one time a picture was 50.00 and another time it was 15.00; we passed on that. Olympus Tours is the very best value, the rep was there from 9am-6pm and very helpful. They will try to have you sit in on a 90 minute time share sales pitch if you agree to it. There is no internet service although they advertise it; it was supposed to be in the room for 15.00 a week and it is not set up yet. So if you want to use a laptop or blackberry make sure you work it out with your internet provider on their end before you get there. The pool runs everywhere throughout the resort under bridges and around a beautiful landscape, it is not a rough crowd, quiet conservative. There are a couple or resident iguanas that come out and watch the crowd in the pool which is quite amusing. The desk personnel simply cannot do enough for you and if you disagree with a charge on your bill, they don't even question you, they immediately remove it. The walkways are all bridges and each side is filled with rocks with water running over the rocks all throughout the resort; quiet calming. The airport service and any service via Olympia Tours was very very prompt and efficient and always on time; we can't say enough about the quality of Olympia Tours including their ice cold transport vans. The Beach area was huge and there is a marina, snorkle boats go out three times daily. In spite of the few issues noted about: We have visited several Sandals resorts and this place knocks it right off the block. If anyone wants more up to date info on this resort please feel free to contact me via email, I wish someone had done this for us! lyynda@cox.net

Great Resort
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/18/07
This is a beautiful resort. The Royal Service is incredable. The resturants are great. The only problem with this remarkable place is the beach, lots of seaweed.

Don't go
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/3/07
We had an awful experience at Paradisus Cancun. We planned a 70 birthday trip for my parents, siblings and grandchildren. We used a regular travel agent and booked rooms for 17 people for 5 days in June 2007. We booked our rooms early feb . For the families with small children we got confirmation of connecting rooms. When we arrived our rooms were all over the place Families with small children (3 yo twins) had rooms on different floors and different non connecting sections of the hotel. After showing them our vouvhers with confirmation of connecting rooms they had no answer nor did they care. It is suppose to be all inclusive no tipping, the whole staff was actively seeking tips everywhere and if youdid ot tip well then so much for 4 star service. The ocean was unusable. There is some sort of seaweed with critters that bite and cause rashes. NO ONE used the ocean. The restaurants cannot support the facility even when it is only 1/2 full. We were so excited to go the this resort I had been to the one in Punta Cana which was excellent. The manager was rude and unhelpful. To appease separating family rooms he offered to get us a discount on a rental car. not too helpful when you are 17 people and were not planning to leave the resort. My nephew got food poisoning the first night and had to be admitted to the cancun hospital. Interestingly there were 4 other patients in the ER ALL FROM PARADISUS......Go at your own risk... NOT WORTH IT

Best Vaca
By Rob, 2/27/07
I liked that it was fairly close to the airport, the rooms were large, the pools were kept nice and there was alot of room for many guests, the room service took 45 minutes most of the time but it was well worth it, having as much liquor as possible was awesome, the restaurants were good, you can eat at anytime, you can go to the hotel's beach which was beautiful, you can do recreational activities including: volleyball and tennis, and if you are young you can find people to hang out with. The worst part of my vacation was leaving and also montazuma's revenge which you will probably get anywhere in mexico.
