Tired hotel in desperate need of a remodel
Stayed two nights in a queen bed suite with a pull-out sleeper bed. We picked this hotel because the cost was lower than other hotels in the area that also had kitchenettes (we paid $79/night plus tax, while other motels in the area ranged from $69 - $149).
The entire hotel is really tired - dirty hall and stairway carpets, missing finishing hardware in the room (part of the sink faucet cover was gone, the TV remote was missing the battery cover, etc.). Yes, these sound minor, but they were just emblematic of the general state of the property - it's tired, and really needs a remodel. Our room had chips in the counter, the furniture was scratched, there were stains in a lot of places. We were not impressed at all. Even the room across the hall from us had obvious problems - their main room door would not close completely (you tug on it from outside, and the latch would not engage).
The walls were not paper-thin, but we could hear the people walking around above us, and when they used their shower, it sounded like we were using ours from all of the running water noise that transmitted into our room.
The staff was reasonably nice, but didn't go out of their way to help. We didn't have any linens for the pull-out sofa bed. After a call to the front desk, they were able to produce some - and told us to come to the front desk to pick them up. Well, you get what you pay for. Maybe the $129+ hotels would bring them to your room to correct their mistake.
Surprisingly, the outside noise was not loud at all (since you have two highways on either side) and a frequently used railroad just on the other side of one highway. Unless you are an extremely light sleeper, the outside noise won't bother you at all. Get a room on the 3rd floor if you want the quietest stay.
The pool is outside, and pretty small - you won't be doing laps in it. It can't be more than 10' x 25', and is only 4'6" deep at the deepest part.
The hotel does have free internet access - but if you need to print anything (like your airline boarding passes) it is VERY inconvenient. They only have a web-based printing service, where you have to upload your document to a website, then get a document number, and then go to the printed and enter the number so it will print your file. Ugh.
The breakfast is minimal - a couple dozen bruised red apples, some individually packaged bagels and muffins, a make-it-yourself waffle (in the shape of the state of Texas - how cute), toast, orange juice, and coffee.
Would I stay there again? Only if every other place with a kitchenette was $50 more per night. Otherwise, I'll pony up the extra cash and stay somewhere nicer next time.
