Unkept Promises of Reduced Rates
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/17/06
We made our initial reservations for our stay via the internet @ $75.00 per day for 4 days. We called the day prior to our check-in date to see if we could possibly come in a day earlier than we expected. We were told that our room was available and that if we wanted to stay for a full week instead of four days, we could stay for a reduced rate of $67.20 per day. We agreed to stay the week. Upon check-in, the desk clerk charged us the original rate of $75 per day. When we told her that it was incorrect, she made a duragatory remark about the person who offered us the reduced rate and said that when we checked out, the reduced rate would be reflected on our charge payment.
When we checked out after seven days, this was NOT the case and our credit card was charged the $75 per day plus tax. When we questioned the charge and requested that they rebill our credit card, the desk clerk told us that she was not able to reverse the charge and rebill our credit card without approval from the desk manager. According to the desk clerk it was going to be at least an hour before the desk manager would show up for work. We were unable to wait until the manager came in. We were, however, ASSURED by the desk clerk that there would be restitution for the overcharge. However, when we called 1 1/2 hours later, we were told that since we had made the original reservation via the internet, they were not going to refund us the $117.60 that they overcharged us for the week's stay.
Calls to Super 8 Customer Service, as well as the motel have been to no avail. Per Customer Service, the hotel in Mulberry, FL, does owe us the refund. We were told by customer service that the hotel manager was instructed to contact, but this never happened. We were instructed by customer service to contact the hotel manager. We contacted the hotel and once again was assured that we would receive a credit. A few hours later we had a message on our answering machine from the hotel telling us that there would be no refund.
We are disputing this charge on our credit bill.
