Holiday Inn Expste Mt Rushmore, Keystone

This HIE looks to be fairly new and thus the interior of the lobby, rooms and hallways are nice. The hotel lobby was clean as were the rooms. We did not have breakfast at their breakfast bar as there are too many good places to eat in and around the area. The down side is the price and the parking. We were there in late September and it was booked up near or at capacity. The parking for guests is limited and forces you to park in an adjacent lot where you run the risk of being ticketed. If Rushmore is your only destination then consider this. If you plan on doing other things for several days consider staying in Rapid City, more choices and better rates.

We enjoyed our stay here. The room was very clean as well as the breakfast area, common areas, and pool. We were able to get a rollaway bed for no charge, they were avail 1st come, 1st serve. The staff was always pleasant and hardworking. They may be a bit understaffed at the front. The complimentary breakfast was very handy as we had 4 children with us and the staff did a great job replenishing the food quickly. We liked being a block off the "main drag" as it was a bit more quiet (lots of motorcycles in town this week). It was within easy walking distance for even our 5 year old. Parking is limited but we always found a spot (parking is limited in most of Keystone). Pool was a little cold for our liking but kids still used it. It was a little pricey, but we were there the week prior to Sturgis and all the hotels had higher rates, Rushmore is only about 3 miles away, so yes, you have to drive but once you pay your annual fee to get in there, you can go back as many times as you like for free.

The service was ok, the advertisment of what the place was "in a bustling" town is NOT accurate. This place closes its doors during the months of Nov. thru April. Front desk staff is less than enthusiastic, save for one girl on the mid shift who wore no name tag. She at least helped us figure out what to do, gave us maps, and was never too busy to take her time helping. Further, we wanted to print boarding passes for our flights but the 'business center' (i use this term VERY loosly) was anything but. The girl at the front desk did offer to print these for us, but we would've had to make her privy to personal information and we were uncomfortable with that. Every Holiday Inn we stay at has this service....all but THIS location. We were disappointed over-all. The restaureant posted hours that said we could get food till 2AM, but it was not even avail. at 10PM. Nothing. NO food. Our kids were hungry and could get nothing. We would've had to drive 20 min. to Rapid City to get fast food. The vending machines on 1st and 2nd floors BOTH did not work. We tried to get change=the front desk didn't have enought for what we needed. We recieved only 6 in quarters.

Reserved a room with a credit card in the morning, called the desk for additional information during the 500 miles trip to their place and was again assured late arrival was no problem. Upon arrival, there was no reservation and even worse, the clerk called neighboring hotels to see if they had our reservation. I used my mobile phone and pressed redial, she answered and still treated us like we were so confused and wrong. I called for either manager the next day and never received a return call. The owners are not on-site and weren't there to monitor the service. After 500 miles, that was not a pleasant end to the day. We did stay at the White House Resort, closer to downtown and paid $75 per night for a double room with fireplace, kitchenette, wireless and wonderful, courteous staff.

Expensive small rooms, very limited parking, Pool and Hot tub appear to be growing some new form of algee. We stayed one night and then relocated to the Holiday Inn in Custer... Much better Hotel for the same money!

I have stayed at many Holiday Inn Expresses and this past experience was unacceptable for the following reasons: -When we got there the toilet was clogged with paper towels. -My wife was missing a pair of earrings after room service cleaned the room. -Hair was on our sheets and towels. -Double charged my credit card. I have always had a good experience with Holiday Inn Express, I would recommend staying at any other Holiday Inn Express except this one in Keystone, SD.

I wasn't expecting too much from this hotel but it had great amenities and an it exceeded my satisfaction. I would stay there again. The continental breakfast was a little disorganized and they were short staffed other than that, I would stay here again.

We stay at Holiday Inn Expresses a lot and it was pretty similar to other ones. The lobby did have a South Dakota feel with some stuffed animals and paintings. The service and cleanliness were average and the pool was clean but a little cold. Free breakfast, cookies and coffee are always a plus too! The only low point is that we stayed that night for the Mt. Rushmore Fireworks and you either need to drive there very early or walk. The hotel is NOT the closest one to Mt. Rushmore, it's probably an extra mile compared to the closer ones. Overall, It was a nice hotel to stay in all year round, but, if you want to walk to the fireworks you might want to stay at a closer hotel. We liked the Rushmore Express too which is about a mile closer.

I've stayed here 3 or 4 different times. It's always been excellent. The staff is always very polite and more than helpful in making reservations and so forth. The prices are a little high depending on the time of year but what can you expect for a tourist destination? During the Sturgis Rally, forget it, it will be booked and probably over $200 a night. In the long run, Keystone is a lot of fun and being right near Mt. Rushmore in the heart of the hills is worth it. I'll stay there again someday when I get back there.
