Stayed, Played, Impressed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/15/10
Stayed and Played. Hotel was 5 stars and golf was great for all levels, had group of 16. Both hotel and course service were exceptional. Amenity’s: A/C golf carts to buckets of beer poolside on lazy river made this the top golf outing I've had. Being one of the lucky few to have bagpipes bringing me in on the final hole as the sunset made this trip surreal. The beds are as comfortable as advertised (heavenly). Concierge & Valet ensured our group was taken care of with free rides to & from local restaurants and sports bars. If you’re looking for a negative ($$$) you get what you pay for.

GREAT EXPERIENCE
By Craig, 8/20/08
Great facility, and very gracious staff. Wonderful place to vacation, and we plan to return. We stayed at the Villas on a time share exchange in August '08. Only complaint was extremely slow internet service. They bill it as high speed access. It is wireless and in every room. It was free for us in the Villas. High speed though it was not. I clocked it at 250 kbps which is barely above dial-up speed. It was the week of the Olympics, and trying to watch video clips on my laptop was an exercise in frustration. I had to wait about 30 seconds for it to download each 5-7 seconds of clip. Other than that it was great. Very clean facility, and well managed.

Scottsdale is our favorite place to play golf, and the Westin Kierland makes the experience even better. The staff, the service, and all amenities are excellent. It's as good as it gets!

Saturday morning construction
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/17/08
I am a massage therapist in Scottsdale. When the friends of a client couldn't get into the spa at the Westin, she gave them my number and I arrived in their room to give them a relaxing massage. That was 9 am, Saturday morning. A few minutes into the massage, there was a horrible pounding sound. I called the desk and was told they were trying to figure out where the construction was being done. The noise continued...another call and still no results. Finally, they determined it was workers removing tiles in the lobby. The noise was traveling through the ducts. You might think they would have had the construction workers stop, but they didn't. They informed us that the work would continue for another 20 minutes...it was another hour! Altogether, it was two hours of construction, continued in spite of complaints (ours were not the only ones). That work should be scheduled for weekdays in the afternoon! Not at all thoughtful!

Love at first sight!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/7/06
I attended a business conference at the resort in June, 2005. I loved the resort and service from the moment the shuttle van was greeted by the bell hop -- excellent, courteous service from all the staff. The concierge was always great about providing us with printed driving directions, shopping/tour/dining recommendations, etc. The resort is a tranquil, paradise oasis for me. I purchased a return vacation ownership package on my first trip, returning this year Sept. 2006. This time I brought my husband along for a pre-getaway at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa before attending another business conference at the Westin La Paloma in Tucson, AZ. My husband loved it so much that we decided to purchase the vacation ownership before hearing the presentation. The villas are beautiful. I travel alot and rarely am I interested in revisiting a place, because there are so many more places to visit, but the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa is like a second home. Westin, the addition of complimentary high speed internet access from each guest room would be a welcome amenity.

Terrible Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/17/06
The Westin Kierland Resort is a beautiful Hotel but I was very disappointed in the service at the resteraunts/bars. I was so excited to eat at Deseo but my experince was ruined by poor service. Our Server never returned to fill our drinks once we placed our order, then my partners steak was rare, and I swore I was eating salmon instead of trout. We were not offered desert of any sort, and we had to flag someone down to get our check! The next morning we decided to eat breakfast at the Monday Cafe. We were seated on the patio but never had our order taken. I had to remind the staff we were there. Once our breakfast did arrive it was excellent! I highly recommend the chirizo flatbread w/ poached eggs! That was the highlight of my stay. Our suite was nice, but a dirty room service tray was left in front of our room the day we checked in. I would not stay here again.

Just a cut above an average hotel room!
By Shelly, 7/19/06
Our family of three (2 adults and one teenager) stayed in a standard room on one of these special "vacation ownership" deals. We had to wait almost two hours to check in to our room. The room was quite small, we had two double beds and a rollaway brought in. The heavenly beds were great, and even the rollaway was a cut above. Two days in arow however, we had stained sheets/pillowcases put on our beds. The heavenly bathroom and shower were nice also. We found out the very first day that we could request a small fridge to be brought to the room, but there was a waiting list and despite repeated calls, we never received one. Service was uneven, some employees were very helpful...others did not seem too concerned that we were waiting so long for our room, we fell asleep in the lobby. The pools were excellent, especially the adult pool which had much cooler water than the other. The breakfast buffet at the hotel resturant was excellent! All in all, it was a nice place for the price I paid, but for 150 a night during low season, and 350 per in high, it is vastly overpriced.

Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/16/05
I liked the pools, esp. the adult pool that was open 24 hours. I was very disappointed with paying $350 a night and 1) a handicapped room with a small closet that had no room for my full length outfits, a bed that my handicapped mother could barely sit on/get off of due to its height, smoke from courtyard fires coming into the room at night (we were unable to tolerate cracking the balcony door), and a "handicapped access" shower that essentially dumped water all over the bathroom floor unless we made a barrier with at least two of our bath towels and the bath mat; 2) NO free shuttle from the airport, which I don't think is too much to ask for that kind of price each night; and 3) NO toll-free phone number, again which seems not too much to ask! 4) I spoke with the concierge desk twice in the two weeks before arriving asking them to help connect me with a local home health care agency to set up assistance for my mother prior to the trip and though both times I was assured someone would get back to me I still heard nothing and ended up making my own arrangements two days prior to leaving. Luckily I found a home health agency willing to accommodate our needs on short notice. I found this experience very disappointing, and especially when they charge such high rates and bill themselves as a luxury resort.

First Class for coach price
By Avidco, 10/24/05
It's late October in Scottsdale. It is probably the nicest time of year to be in this area. The grounds here are fabulous. From the beautiful views of the golf course, to the water slide for the kids, this is by far the most versitile and beautiful resort in the Scottsdale area. Great architechture and location are the best attributes of the resort.
