The first night we were there, I kept on hearing this strange noise coming from the bathroom. It kept me awake and after a while I got up to see where it came from. I was able to pinpoint the noise to come from the closed toilet. As I looked in, there was this well-fed rat trying to climb out. I am an animal lover as well as an architect, so at 4.00AM I found myself building this contraption of a toilet brush as some stuff I found in the room, so the soaked animal could escape over the bathroom wall. The management refused to acknowledge my complaint. We left two days early, not only because of that, but the fumes of chemicals all over the island to solve the unacknowledged problem became too much for us.
