Clean - Great location at a good price
By AngelaO, 06/30/08
This Doubletree has a great location. It is located just on the border of China Town. The T station (Orange Line) is located right next door. It is an easy walk to the Commons or to the Back Bay area. Just returned from our second stay here. When we stayed here two years ago I was amazed by how friendly and helpful the staff was. Then the staff knew your name and went out of their way to be friendly. Apparently those staff members are no longer with the hotel. The staff was not rude, but they were not nearly as friendly as the previous visit. The bedding and bed is wonderful. I the carpet in our room was a little worn, but they do have signs up indicating they are changing the carpet throughout the hotel. The room and bathroom seemed very clean. The bathroom only had a shower. It would had been nice to have a tub to soak your feet/legs in after a long day of sightseeing. Make sure you request a room that does not face Washington Street. Our room was on the 5th floor and faced Washington Street. The traffic noise made it difficult to sleep. While I worried that the hospital noise would keep me up, we hear no sirens at night. The issue was more bus and truck traffic. I wished we would had moved rooms after our first night. I slept very little during the 4 nights that we were there due to traffic noise. There are not alot of restaurants right next to the hotel. There is a McDonalds and Au Bon Pain on the same block as the hotel. Otherwise you will have to walk up to the Park Square area or Back Bay. We did walk a number of times to Beacon Hill area for great lunches and breakfast. Of our 4 night stay at the hotel, 2 nights were reward nights and we spent around $230 for the other two nights. The hotel did lower their rates about 2 days before our arrival. I suggest if you book directly with Hilton to check the rates again a few days before your trip. On our next trip to Boston I would consider staying here again because of the proximity to the "T" and the Commons area.

scared my children
By kendell, 11/28/07
Room was very clean. Bed and linens excellent. Front desk staff excellent. YMCA a bit scary and the pool was cold. Nickel and dime you for everything. Internet costs $10 and safe in room costs $3. Food in resteraunt good but very small portions. I had to ask staff at bar to stop having very innappropriate conversations during breakfast that my two small children could hear. Would not return. Not worth the cost.

Great room, poor pool.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/01/07
Hotel was in a great location, close to the T, kid friendly resturants, and the price was better priced than other hotels downtown with similar amenities. Staff was always very pleasant and helpful. Rooms were clean and well stocked with shampoos, lotions and soap. My children, ages 7 and 10, looked forward to the afternoon platter of chocolate chip cookies in the lobby. The kids were;however, disappointed with the pool. The description of the olympic size pool was very deceiving. Pool was wet, but not very cheery or welcoming. Having to all (including males)wear a bathing cap caught us off guard. YMCA did provide us caps, but I wondered how many others wore the same caps. Access to YMCA was also awkward. Not sure what one would do during cold months. If you don't plan on swimming, great experience. The cost for parking was also a bit much, $35.00 a day. The only other issue we had was not getting enough towels. There were four of us in the room for a stay of 11 days. Unless a note was left telling housekeeping we needed four towels, only three were left. Even after repeated notes were left, we never seemed to get the correct number of towels. Overall, a good experience. We didn't come to Boston to swim, but to see the sights. A more positive pool experience would have made the stay more enjoyable for our children.

loved it

I loved this hotel. Excellent service and great rooms. It's a bit out of the way but other than that this is where I want to stay every time.

A little scary..
By Nessy, 08/12/06
The hotel itself is not bad...the staff was very nice and helpful...but the location was a little scary!! It's located very nearby an underground station, where the crowd is a little unsavory. After dark I wouldn't recommend walking around in that area...and I don't scare very easy! The hotel is fine...but for me, location is a huge part of my trip.

No pool!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/26/06
The beds were to die for it was all down. But it was my daughters birthday, we could not wait to use the pool only to find out it was not in hotel but next door at the chinatown YMCA, it was crowded dirty and had short hours, and spa was broken..we felt very deceived!!

Enjoyed the hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/15/05
Travelled to the city for a weekend get-away. Have stayed at other Doubletree's, that was one reason we booked there. The hotel is nicer than the pictures look. Nice, modern layout. Very helpful staff, both getting in and leaving. The concierge give us a good tip for a dining spot on the North End. The room was clean and comfortable, and the location was convenient, right next to a T stop.

Won't stay again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/24/05
The staff was great. The bathroom was terrible. Very small, took two of us to open and shut the shower door. No tub, only a shower. First day we were there, had to call someone to fix the toilet. We paid $179.00 a night and we have stayed at Holiday Inn's that were much better than this. Our key quit working and they had to activate again. But the location was good. Close to the orange line.

A Nice Hotel and Convenient Location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/13/05
The hotel was quite pleasant and had a friendly and helpful staff. It definitely seemed like a good value for the quality. With two children, it was also nice to have privileges at the adjacent Wang YMCA. My kids enjoyed swimming, indoor soccer and indoor baseball. The room was comfortable and had good temperature control. We had an interior room (it had a window which basically looked into a storage room). That was actually ok as it ended up being pretty quiet and sheltered from any potential street noise. We found the hotel to be a great location. We got around on foot and on the T. The New England Medical Center stop is about 50 yards from the front door of the hotel. Chinatown, Downtown Crossing, Fanuel Hall, Copley, Boston Common are all within walking distance. It was even a pretty easy T ride to Fenway Park. Learning the T system and the commuter rail offers all sorts of possibilities from this location. We were very satisfied and would certainly stay at this hotel again in the future.
