Great place to stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/16/06
It was a good inexpensive vacation close to down town. Very close to the beach and very friendly people. Make sure to get up early to make reservations for dinner!

Not for us
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/30/05
The pool was fantastic and there were plenty of sunbeds. However we found the hotel very boring. While we were there the daytime activities were virtually non existant. The evening entertainment was poor. Kids disco lasted 20 mins and played same 4 songs nightly, then a 30 to 40 min dance show, then nothing. We didn't enjoy the food in the buffet at all, there were flies and wasps everywhere in the restaurant. The snack bar was the best place to eat. The reception staff were very unhelpful, refused to phone a doctor, charged us for items we hadn't had took 12 hours to come and fix a broken safety deposit box. This is just a few things that happened to us, hope anyone else going there has better luck than we did, we certainly wont return or recommend the hotel.

Great for Family Vacations!
By Jim, 10/5/05
A great destination- Playa del Carmen! This is a newer hotel, on the beach. Clean and with a nice beach. 5 minutes from downtown Playa. It is beautiful, greaat for a family. Not a lot of "night life" though. Kinda a nice escape for those who like it that way.

Overall good food a let down
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/22/05
the rooms were very well equiped with everything we needed and the maid service was excellant. clean towels and beds made daily. the pool was amazing along with the beach. there were enough sunbeds for everyone around the pool or on the beach. the food was god in the mexican and italian but the buffet was a dissapointment. there entertainment was also a let down. there is nothing to do for children in the evenings. overall a satisfactory holiday

\"not a 5 star \"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/6/05
I think if it is within your budget to spend a couple of hundred dollars more for your vacation then skip the coco beach. the staff (not the waiters) need to be better trained. I was awaken twice a 4:30 am by the noise of carts being pushed down the hall and i am not a light sleeper.the two specialty restaurants were very good. I did not like the smell of gasoline emited by the boats ankered in front of the hotels. the internet connection was down the whole week i was there and it is located next to the lobby in a room aprox 5'x8' no ac no chair 2 pesos per min. the beds were like park benches (hard). the food selection was not great but whatever was there was good.

2nd trip to Mexico
By Heather, 8/1/05
My husband and I stayed at Reef Coco Beach, July 3rd-7th. We had a great trip. Last year was our first trip to Mexico, we stayed at a much larger resort, and honestly were exausted by how far it was to everything. This year we wanted a smaller resort. Reef Coco is definitely convenient. The highlights of this resort are the delicious snack bar by the pool, the sports bar upstairs (only open at nite) and how easy it is to go to Playa Del Carmen. We chose to upgrade our room to ocean front. Well worth $25 a nite, for a hammock to lay on and look out at the ocean. The first couple of days the weather was so nice,we had our balcony door open and could listen to the waves. This resort is great for meeting people. Because of the size, you see the same people everyday. We met so many people. Great trip, would definitely go back.

Excellent trip
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/21/05
The staff was very friendly and attentive. The rooms, pool, beach area, gym, lobby, etc were clean. The bartenders worked very hard to ensure you did not have to wait long for a drink and they were friendly and respectful. The food in the Italian and Mexican restaurants was very good, while the snack bar food was good and the buffet could have been better. We booked through FunJet who picked us up at the airport in a van, and took us directly to the hotel. On the return to the airport after the vacation, FunJet provided a car and driver for us and took us directly to the airport. $3 cab ride to 5th Avenue for shopping.

Loved the Reef Coco Beach
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/27/05
I, along with a group of 10 friends spent the first week of May at the Reef Coco Beach. We had been bumped from it last year (to RIU Las Americans in Cancun)so this was a complimentary trip. I love the RIU Resorts (RIU Palace in Playa is my favorite) but Cancun is not for me. I love Playa Del Carmen. The beaches are the best and the town is so much fun. Our rooms were ready and waiting for us and we enjoyed every aspect of this quaint little resort. The location is wonderful with one of the nicest beaches in Playa. Don't let the comments about the boats bother you. They are there but I enjoyed watching them and if you do not, you can move a small ways down the beach as the resort is next to a public beach and the sand seems to go on forever. The rooms were fairly small but clean and the beds were comfortable. The food was good. We all enjoyed the Mexican restaurant the most. The snack bar by the pool has great hamburgers, pizza, sandwiches and nachos. The service is good (especially Oscar in the travel agency) and the staff do their best to make sure everyone has a good time. I still prefer RIU Palace but for the price and the location, I would also stay at the Reef Coco Beach again. Hope this helps!
