we spent 9 days there and loved it. The staff was friendly and the food and drinks were very good. We have stayed all over the caribean and found this place very nice.

Hotel from Hell
By BusyMom, 9/8/11
I read some of the other reviews - some agree with us, but those that praise this place must be either paid off or thinking of somewhere else. We had the worse experience here - worst food and drinks, menu was so cheap - unless you like stale hot dogs by the pool every day. They pushed to time share so hard that we wanted to leave. We had to endure a half day of sales pitches -they said it was "part of our reservation contract" WHAT?????? The place was dirty and looked outdated for years. Staff was rude at times - or seemed like they could care less. I was surprised as to how bad it actually was - I will never go back here again.

Worse Vacation Ever....EVER!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/8/11
This was our honeymoon trip -(all inclusive trip food included) we did not have high expectations but thought this would be a nice hotel not too close to the crowded beaches. Well upon getting there they started the non-stop pounding to listen to their time share sell. We tried to avoid it but were told that they would cancel our reservation, that we would lose all our money (it was paid in full) and we would have no where to stay. Never having been in Mexico before, we went along and spent 6 hours the next day listening. They were nice at first, but when we told them we didnt have the money - they almost shoved us out the back door - and were rude to us thereafter. On another note, food - was terrible, the drinks - so watered down - and to end our week, we both got salminella poisoning - and ended up with fevers, vomiting and diarrhea - We will never ever go here again - and may never go back to Mexico after the terrible experiences we had. TRY ANOTHER HOTEL - THIS ONE IS THE PITS.

Awesome Hotel and Staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/17/10
Smaller hotel which I liked. Staff exeptional always trying to please and very hard working. Room was wonderful with great view. Food was plentiful and good. Could not say enough good things about this hotel and it's staff. I would certainly recommend this hotel.

Going Back A Third Time!
By casiopia42, 8/10/09
The grand coco bay is the best place to vacation! I went my first time with my family, the staff was fun and entertaining. My kids played water volleyball, beach volleyball, the snack bar was great. My kids are always hungry...and I didnt have to worry about it, they could just go to the snack bar and get a quesadilla and guacamole or hamburgers....so many options, and staff is so nice. Rooms were great. Food in the buffet place is great, with an omlet bar every morning. The resturant is amazing food with first class service, but we always waiting too long to make reservations and ended up having to eat at 9pm. The 2nd time I went it was a girls trip and it was even better. The staff has a selected night club everynight and they go out with you, hook you up with bracelets, and you al travel together. Its so much fun, spent our days laying in the sun, drinking and eating...and our nights dressed up and dancing. There was construction going on next door, and although we did hear it, it didnt bother us, or ruin our trip at all. I cant wait to go back!

Will not return!!
By Nichole, 5/27/09
My husband and I booked this resort for our honeymoon/vacation. Will try and make this short. The dining resturants were not to bad since there were not so many people there, they did not enforce the dress code. The only place to eat during the say was snack bar, which got extremely old after the second day because the other buffet diner we never knew when they were open or closed, no hours posted, weird hours. The only thing we got for breakfast is cereal and cold toast. They finally brought the menus for breakfast and resturants to to us the night before we left... We were there for 7 days. When you pull up to the resort, across the street is an eye sore. Falling down buildings, rumble everywhere. It is all-inclusive but any beer that you want in your room, you have to pay extra for, that is not mentioned anywhere... We were just very unsatisfied with everything, will not go back again. I read some reviews before we left and just thought that maybe people were to picky and just didnt take them to seriously, but please take into consideration before booking at this resort, we are not exaggerating at all!! Plus Construstion was going on that woke us up early in the morning with machines banging around... One thing after another.!!

The Worst Hotel in Cancun!
By jrryD, 9/25/08
This place was the worst inclusive hotel ive witnessed. really bad food, the place is in constant construction, the air conditioning didn't work in our room, and management did not care at all. finally i had to cancel the rest of my stay there, and find another hotel in cancun, and management charged me full for everything and were extremely rude. BUYER BEWARE!!

Nice resort but bad food
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/12/08
Overall my sister and I had a good time because of the beach, pool, and entertainment staff. But for an all-inclusive resort, there were 4 restaurants, 2 of which you have to make reservations and only serve dinner. The exclusive restaurants had pretty good food, but for the rest of your meals you're eating on the buffet or at the snack bar. The buffet food was tasteless, greasy, and unvaried. None of the fruit was sweet and none of the bevarages were cold. Enjoy boiled franks and hamburgers at the snack bar or eat your meals out of the resort.

My Over-All Experience and Impression of GCB
By Tammy Love, 7/1/08
(edited for length) A group of 5 of us went (4 in our early 40's and one 19 year old). Except for my sister (1st trip), the rest of us have been to Mexico several times, & we've stayed at several AI's. 6 years ago, my husband & I went to PDC with another couple & stayed at Gran Porto Real. Front Desk / Room - We were greeted w/ champagne, cold cloths & the snack bar still being open. Room was 2161, & we loved it. It looked out at the pool & the ocean. Construction never bothered us. Had a toilet that you had to jiggle the handle. Didn't bother to report, because it wasn't a problem. The room temp was fine for me, but one of the other rooms from our group stayed warm. The other was very chilled. I know the couple with us never got their A/C fixed, but it wasn't unbearable. Our housekeeper was very pleasant, & our room was always nice & clean. The young man with us had housekeeping walk-in on him once with the Do Not Disturb sign on the door, but they immediately closed the door and left. Food - It's not a 5* resort, but they do a very decent job with the food. Snack bar didn't have a huge selection at night, but at least they were open. During the day, they had a standard menu, but it had several options on it. Liked everything we tried. We ate at the buffet every breakfast & most lunches & 1x at dinner. They did have different theme nights, but there were some basics that were out at every meal. The omelet station was great for breakfast . We ate at the Mexican & the Italian speciality restaurants 2x each. The servers here were just awesome & the food wonderful. You need to make reservations early for dinner that night. Beach - I read a few reviews that complained about the boats. They never bothered me. Walking down the beach one way led to a quieter area, & the other led to several public beaches with more of a party atmosphere. We never had a problem leaving our towels, etc by the pool or in the beach chairs. Shaded palapas were taken-up quickly, but we didn't see anyone wasting them. Even with all the activities, it was easy to relax. The water was beautiful! Surprised to see they actually let us walk on the beach at night. Pool - The pool is awesome! We were surprised that the pool didn't seem to close. The bar by the buffet is the BEST (they learn your favorites very quickly, especially if you tip). We didn't find the drinks weak, but there is a limited selection. But it's Mexico, & YOU'RE ON VACATION. Again - roll w/ it. There's a water dispenser on the bar, & it always had fresh, cold water in it. Activities / Shows - This was an area we all agreed was a problem. They post a schedule, but it's not enforced. There is lots of confusion between the staff as to what is going on which night (e.g. we were told Mariachi bands would be in the buffet restaurant one night, only to have it be Asian theme). Volleyball, casino night, karaoke, etc. never started on time. I think this caused people to give-up & do other things. 5th Avenue / Town - LOVE this place! Great people watching. Good bargains. Lots to see & do. Be sure to go during day AND at night. Totally different vibe. Be sure to check out Big Al & Red Neck Steve's Beer Bucket! Al is a DJ in DFW area, & we've been hearing about this new venture for a while. It's a little place with great ambiance! Paloma is awesome bartender & very sweet! I spent my BD night there, & we had a GREAT time! Be sure to say hi to Duke (& Jose) for me! While you can't ever be 100% sure of anything, we've kind of learned to weed through the good & bad reviews, picking-out the real problems vs. people's opinions. You can't control the weather, flight/airport issues, other people's reactions to situations, etc. You just buy trip insurance and pray. ; )

Wonderful Vacation!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/1/08
My husband and I just returned from the Grand Coco Bay May 31st, we were there for 9 days and had a wonderful time. The location on the ocean was absolutely beautiful! The food and service was great. Had a wonderful time at 5th Avenue shopping although there were alot of people trying to get you to purchase tours from them all in all had a very good time shopping and site seeing. If we go back to Cancun we will stay at Grand Coco Bay again.
