Don't waste your time here.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/30/11
I'm going to keep this simple, had the worst experience of my life here. The place seemed to be a posh hotel but after seeing what I paid for was a huge disappointment. Everything was outdated bed, tv, and the bean bag chair was a joke. But here's my punch line up checking out about 1 1/2 hours later I realized that I left something behind contacted the front desk one employee tells me they didn't find anything.. Asked for a manager he tells me that they found the bags/boxes & they were empty. I requested to speak with security and am given the run around when I do get the person in charge 10 hours later he says I could file a claim through their insurance co. Did so, had all reciepts for what was stolen and the end result "Claim Denied". I cannot recommend this establishment to my worst enemy. They had the opportunity to make this right by reimbursement through the insurance company but they choose to harbor criminals that prey on the customers. The staff wasn't concerned about my situation and took a passive stance. Had I not been on the way to LAX I would have went back called the cops and filed a report. I thought all would be well & it wasn't.

I had a blast, young, hip, and full of life..
By Julian, 2/8/08
The Standard in Hollywood proved to be a good choice for me and my friends.. We rented a room during the summer for a city-wide event and we had a blast. The rooms were clean, the foyer was bustling, and the party at the pool was off the hook. The hotel itself was nice. The restrooms are always the main thing for me and The Standard was very clean. It was just what we were looking for, affordable, clean, young, and hip.. The club was a bit packed and the drinks were over priced, but again, I had a blast..

What a terrible experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/28/07
I am an aussie whom was travelling alone in the US and on Friday 21 September 2007 after traveling from Los Vagas, I checked into this establishment. The going rate was $259 US plus TAX. All being fine, the room although old was very clean and well presented. I left my room at about 8pm going to the nearby Comedy Club by myself and returning to The Standard in the early hours of Saturday morning I was confronted by 4/5 doorman/bouncers/security, on showing my room key and on speaking to the doormen suddenly I was grabbed around the neck by one of the security and grappled to the ground for no apparent reason other then apparently saying the wrong thing. I was then forced to lay on the tiles, in front of reception when I then rang the police. The police attended and escorted me to my room. Being alone in the US and the obvious problems of my word against the 4/5 security I was frightened for my safety. In my room I rang for a taxi and packed my belongings leaving as soon as I could, to add insult to injury the taxi arranged by The Standard took me to the closest holiday inn where I checked into, with the Taxi fare being $80 US only later to find out that there were several Hoiliday Inns withing blocks of the Standard and NOT an $80 taxi ride away. In writing this I am simply warning anyone who intends to stay at this location to be wary of the security and staff (who stood and watched the assault from the reception 4 feet away. I received abrasions and bruising to my back and finger marks on my neck. I enjoyed my holiday and stayed in many nice establishments, but to be honest this was one of the worst experience of my life, and to pay decent money for a hotel one would expect to be treated with respect and not the way in which I was treated by the staff of the Standard. stay at The Stadard

Standard Room, Below Standard Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/18/07
The best thing about going and staying in a hotel is the service, the idea that you are being well taken care of and catered to. We did not even stay at the standard, we just went there in the daytime for the pool! The people were so rude at the pool, when we ordered drinks/food, the waiters were sooo rude, it took forever to get a drink/food, and there was hardly ANY alcohol in the drinks! They give below standard service at the hotel, the pool was whack, the only good thing was the view, which was not really worth it! We knew their service sucked so we stayed at the Renaissance, a block away, they have great service!!!!! The people at the pool on Saturday and Sunday at Standard, were not straight, there were a bunch of homosexuals even the waiters, which Im all for, but I think thats why all the waiters/servers had such a bad attitude, homosexuals tend to have a very bad attitude when it comes to serving people. Im from San Diego, we still have the beach, the weather, the nightlife, and GREAT service! Everyone in san diego is way awesome! Dont ever stay at the Standard, and if you do, dont expect it to be a good experience!!!!

Sub-standard
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/29/07
The decor of the rooms was interesting and trendy, but the amenities were off--Mr. Bubble Bubblebath--what's that about? Service at the counter and in the restaurant were understaffed. The restaurant had a terribly rude waiter who was obviously disgruntled because he was working too many tables--never could get breakfast there in spite of getting there at opening time because I had somewhere to be at 8:00 am and their service was too slow.

don't believe the hype
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/13/07
first : sorry for my bad english I stay 3 night with my girl friend last year (september 2006), I book a room with private balcony and city view. The balcony was at the swimming pool floor with a lot of noisy girls and boys... So no privacy and no view. Standard is a place to drink a beer before the party, but really not a place to sleep.

below standard.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/2/07
worst experience ever. we were kicked out of our room for calling the front desk and explaining to them that our couch did not pull out when we purchased a room that slept four people. they hung up on us twice and then someone came up to our room and made us leave the hotel for "harassing the front desk" so not true!! they pulled our cars up to valet and made us leave the hotel after we had been drinking. We were never loud (our cd player didnt even work) so we couldn't even play music. the staff was rude, disrespectful and in no way cared about their guests. I will never come back and I do not recommend staying there unless you want to get treated like dirt because that is exactly how they treated us. We should have left when we were rudely checked in. IT was bad from start to end. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Disappointed
By Jana, 1/25/07
Location is great, lobby is great. That's where it ended for us. It's Tuesday night and "slept" to thumping music from the cafe/bar below, people above who didn't go to bed until 6am, the smell of cigarettes coming in through the HVAC system and no way to get fresh air into the room. Oh, and did I mention the creaking floors from above, the paper thin walls and the people going at it next door? Rooms are exceedingly basic - even "cheap" in quality. I'm very happy to be in a hip hotel with some noise and action, but The Standard is far more youth hostel than it is hip hotel.

The Name says it ALL!
By Rosie M, 1/11/06
This is a BASIC hotel. It has IKEA written all over it, but it's definitely not the most comfortable place to stay. You'll feel like you're in a dorm. It's overrated with nothing special about it. Though, it is walking distance from the clubs. So if you don't care for a comfortable bed or much space at all; this is the place for you.
