LOVED IT
By ,
I went by myself, a working vacation. I agree, the food was so-so, but that was my ONLY complaint. I have mobility issues and everything was accessible. The steps were minimal, 1-3 at most, and ramps everwhere, so only the sea was access limited. The staff was fabulous, right there and asking if I needed anything, before I needed it. The room was cleaned daily and I never had a issue with leaving things about my room, nor heard any complaints from other residents over security issues. Quite the reverse. Everyone I talked to, over the 3 weeks I was there, thought it was the safest place they'd ever been in Mexico. Even going into town was cheap, easy, and fun. Only trouble I had was with Expedia, when I wanted to add a week. Had to do it myself, but the hotel matched the price. I'm already planning my next trip, along with my family this time.

Don't Understand
By ,
We have been to El Coz four times and have never had even the slightest problem. The staff is great, if you treat them like human beings and not your personal attendant. The food in the outside pavillion is not 5 star, but it's certainly not as bad as some say. The food in the La Veranda restaurant is great as is the service. If you wear shorts and sandals, you AIN"T gettin' in...just like any 4 star restaurant. If you stay at the El Cozumeleno with a chip on your shoulder, you'll get what you deserve. And don't forget to tip!

Beautiful......can not wait to return!
By ,
The staff was great, the location perfect.....loved everything!! We just returned from a 7 night stay at El Cozumeleno. We were celebrating our 1 yr. anniversary and it was our first trip to Mexico. There were not many people there (low season) but it was perfect for us. It felt as if we had the entire resort for ourselves. I have nothing bad to say about the place. It was quiet, the beach was lovely, the view wonderful, the staff was awesome. We can not wait to return.

Lack of Security
By ,
My Iphone and accessories were stolen from the nightstand where I had left it charging. When security came to the room they searched the room, asked if the people in next room and if my niece (who stayed with us on the 1st night) could have taken it. The people in the room next us were friends and my niece had returned the key to the room. The next day the person I was traveling with got off on the wrong floor and entered the room right below us with her room key. She went to security and advised them. They verified she wasn't lying about it. The following night at about 130am we returned from an event we had attended with some of the kids from the group. There was no one in sight. We had to yell to wake up the night auditor and "security." Some of the kids didn't have a key to get into their room. Instead of verifying who was registered in those rooms 1st, they just got the master key and escorted them to those rooms...No questions asked. The "security" employee, Francisco Mundo, had an attitude problem. He did not want to let me add how easy it is to access other peoples rooms nor give me a copy of the theft report. He claimed to have done an investigation, but I have my doubts. I would not recommend this hotel simply due to lack of security. Update....I wrote the credit card company and provided documentation regarding the theft of property. They were unable to resolve the issue. El Cozumeleno didn't even acknowledge or apologize for the experience I encountered. They just sent the credit card company copies of the authorization for my hotel stay and left it at that. The credit card company adivised me this is what they call a TORT claim. Whatever you do, if you plan on staying at this place remember CALL THE POLICE AND FILE A POLICE REPORT, if you experience a theft. Do not rely on the Security Department because they do nothing but protect their own and try to accuse you of lying. They probably get a cut on the goods stolen from guests. Do not leave any valuables in your room. Not even in the Safety Deposit Box. They probably have duplicate keys. Remember the room keys open up more than 1 room. The only reason I went was to attend the HOTEL OWNERS NIECE'S WEDDING to a family friend.

It'll do
By ,
I've been to El Cozumeleno several times. My wife & I go to Cozumel to deep sea fish, snorkel & relax. I hated the beds, so I asked them to put egg crates on them. Three. It worked fine. The place was clean (as always), the service was great (as always) and the food is what it is. We don't go for the fine dining. If that's what you're looking for DON'T GO! My wife & I like their breakfast and can live w/lunch & dinner if we decide to eat there. This year we started eating dinner a few nights in San Miguel at a local place w/our boat captain & his family. Great food at cheap prices (El Moro). This is no 5 star resort, but the snorkeling off the beach & friendly service pleases this olsd man.

Great staff, clean, but extremely hard bed!
By ,
We absolutely loved the view and the friendly staff. They had daily activities for the guests which were very entertaining. The complimentary internet service was wonderful! The beds are extremely hard. There are not any clocks in the rooms other than on the TV Guide on Channel 02. One morning we requested a wake up call and never received it. I know this because I woke up at 5:30 am with a backache from the awful beds. Make sure you bring a watch and swimshoes. Lots of rocks/shells on beach...and they hurt! You have a lot to keep up with (room key, safe key, towel cards, bracelet). Also, we booked an Xrail Excursion through the TraficTours rep in the lobby and were extremely misled. We were told we would be going to the Mayan Ruins, on a long trail ride through the jungle where we could stop and take pictures with monkeys, parrots and by really old large trees. The first buggy we had, the gas pedal broke off while driving through downtown area and the second one we had broke down on the highway due to a faulty ignition. We had to drive this buggy through the downtown area, which was kinda dangerous seeing that people run stop signs and red lights. The trail was more of a man-made dust trail through some woods. Towards the end I asked our tour guide if we were going to take pics with the monkeys and he said they didn't have monkeys or parrots there. And the ruins we saw...was the El Cocoral. Then at the end of the 6 hour excursion the tour guide asked us for a tip and explained to us that he only works by tip basis only. The majority of the "tour" was driving through downtown and going to the lighthouse. I was very disappointed. We paid $188 for two of us to go. Everywhere you turn, someone has a tip jar. The guys on the parasail boat have tip jars, the people who run the shops downtown have tip jars at the register, all the bars have tip jars of course...but you couldn't go anywhere without seeing a tip jar. And our all inclusive package included tips. Which i understand anything outside the resort does not include tips. The food was very bland. The best food was at La Veranda Restaurant. Also, while taking a shower...the water would cut off every 2 or 3 minutes...then cut back on after about 10-15 seconds. This happened on a daily basis and we stayed 6 days. We also purchased an international calling card which we found out didn't work. So we made a few phone calls which totaled 15 minutes. The resort charges $5.00 per minute so we had to pay $75.00 upon checkout which was expected. The staff was extremely friendly and the environment was really nice.

Love El Coz
By ,
We have traveled to El Cozumeleno at least once and up to three times each year for 10 years. We have stayed at several other resorts on the island and greatly prefer this one. The only negative is one I have had from all inclusive resorts around the worls - the food gets old after 5 - 6 days. Breakfast omlets are great, lunch from the menue is great (Mahi Mahi) and supper in Veranda is very acceptable. For the price is is great. We leave our beach bag under the thatched cabana all day unattended and have never had a problem. Get a room on the 8th or 9th floor and enjoy.

MOLD, STOMACH FLU AND BIRD!!!!
By ,
The good thing that I can say about this place is that the customer service was great however.................................................... There was visible black mold in the ceiling of my room. I could smell the mold when I came into the room and the house keeper bought me a can of Lysol. Clearly mold has to be remediated by specialized products. The food was horrible. First the main seating area is outside so there isn´t any control over the birds or flies. The birds actually landed in the food and ate while the patrons were eating the same food....UNSAFE!!!! There were not very many beach activities and the beach is very very very smail with sharp rocks cutting your feet. This was not a pleasant stay, I was ready to go back home on the first day. Like I said.... friendly customer service, if thats what you like. Oh, I caught a stomach virus!!!!
