Can't believe the high ratings
By Jason, 7/20/11
Maybe it was my room, but this was the worst hotel stay I can remember.....and I log around 70+ hotel stays a year. My room was filthy, sticky (from a slow drain in the shower that floods the room), no iron, no ironing board, directory sticker ripped off phone, cracked sink. The room looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in weeks. Just awful. Couldn't wait to check out.

Overall not bad for the money but....
By Puzzled, 5/25/10
Overall not bad for the money but....... Check in was simple and pleasant. The staff addressed my early check in without a problem. I reserved a King suite with jacuzzi. This would be considered their best room. Overall the room was not bad and I would stay here again. Since this is a suite it had decent size. This adds to the issue of the TV that is placed on the dresser. Since the TV was affixed to the dresser it could not be moved which made it hard to see from the bed. Maybe if the TV were larger this would help with the viewing distance. What the room really needs is a second TV wall mounted near the bed. For their best room in the hotel this isn't to much to ask. The facility is on the older side and the rooms decor and fixtures reflect it. The bathroom has a 4' double bulb florescent light in it, very commercial looking. The bathroom could use a second light source for when your enjoying the jacuzzi. Nothing like sitting in the jacuzzi with 8 gazillion watts of light! Something on the softer side light wise would be nice. The tub/jacuzzi itself had its own issues. The drain would not stay open to allow the water to escape. The drain knob had to be propped up with the drain cover. While not the end of the world I should not have to do this in what is their best room. The curtain rod was loose or broke which had it drooping down. This wouldn't bother me other than the shower curtain kept opening up as it would slide to the lowest point. I guess this is a way to help keep the floors clean! The bed while not terrible is not one of the newer pillow tops found at the newer hotels. The pillows were better than the usual flattened excuse for a pillow quite often found in rooms. The comforter was surprisingly soft and comfortable. The linen was fine the first day. The next two days I seemed to have been shorted my allotment. A simple call to the front desk netted me more however I shouldn't have had to call. The location is easy to get to and not very far from several restaurants and local shopping. The staff was very pleasant right from the desk clerk to each employee I passed in the halls. Overall the place isn't terrible and I would stay here again for the price. I think the rooms individually need a little attention.

Very nice and the price was great too
By Mary, 3/29/10
My two friends and I stayed at the Wingate during a "Mom's only weekend". The hotel was very clean and everyone was very nice. The jacuzzi was a plus after all the shopping we did. The beds were very comfortable and the free hot breakfast was more than what I expected. We would definately go back whenever staying in the Harrisburg/Hershey area.

Very nice hotel for the price
By Saint Bernard, 11/26/08
I got to stay at this hotel for two nights. After reading some of the reviews, I was a little skeptical, but I was given a great rate on this hotel thru priceline.com. I found the staff pleasant, the hotel very nice and location was convenient. There is a restraunt in the hotel and also a Bob Evan's next door. They are doing some renovations so I evpect this hotel to continue to get better and better. It was very pleased with this hotel.

Check the bathroom door locks
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/14/08
I have stayed at this hotel several times in the past while on business, and have always been pleased with it. Not after 6/10/2008 though, when I found myself locked in the bathroom of Room 205 for approximately 75 minutes due to an improperly installed door handle (lock on the outside instead of the inside). I know, it sounds unbelievable, but it actually happened. When I didn’t show up for dinner, a coworker came looking for me and I was able to yell out my predicament. Two members of the hotel staff then came into my room and all but broke down the bathroom door, which would not open from the outside either. At that point I was offered another room, which I took; however, I was never offered so much as an apology and absolutely no attempt was made to make the situation right, despite the “100% Guarantee” touted on the comment card (which I wasted my time filling out and returning to the front desk). The front desk staff is friendly, but management is all but non-existent. I will make other arrangements the next time I’m in Harrisburg.

Poor General Management Skills
By Riss, 3/30/08
This is a great hotel as far as service, amenities, and location. Most of the staff was extremely helpful, except for a few of the housekeepers who had attitudes when we needed pillows or towels. The breakfast was wonderful, but the spa had not been in working order for over a year as I was told. The General Manager, however, really needs to learn some people skills, or soon he will not have a staff at all. Throughout my family's and my stay, we heard him constantly talking down to them and treating them more like slaves than employees. When we had the housekeeping complaint, he replied "I'm sorry, my staff has much to learn when it comes to service." This was a generally nice stay, except for the gloomy, tense atmosphere.

Not worth the money!
By vincent, 1/19/07
The pillows were flat and lumpy. The sheets were very wrinkled and looked like they had been slept in. The shower stall was dirty and the shower curtain moldy. The phone system wasn't working so I missed an important call. They charged me more than the rate I had confirmed on-line. And though I lodged a complaint at check-out, and through several subsequent emails to the front office manager and the general manager, I have still received no response. And yet they promote a 100% guarantee on their rooms. What a sham!

What a wonderful stay
By Juzetta, 6/2/04
My family and I recently stayed at the Wingate Inn in Harrisburg, PA and I can not say enough about how nice this hotel is. Our trip to PA was for the purpose of visiting Hershey Park, which was about a 15 minute drive from the hotel. After a full day in the park with two young children, it was especially nice to come back to a spacious, clean and comfortable room. Even more fabulous was the water pressure coming from the massaging showerhead. The continental breakfast was what it was - continental - but the supply of food was abundant up until the very last minutes of breakfast time. I will definitely be back as a guest of the Wingate Inn - Harrisburg and I recommend it to all those traveling to PA. Enjoy your stay!
