Some good, some horrible. Part 1
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/1/07
I spent two weeks staying at the South Cooper location in Arlington, TX.
Free High Speed Internet: This was the most important feature to me when choosing where I stayed while visiting family for two weeks, so this will be the first section of my review. Even though I was on vacation, I still needed high speed Internet to maintain my stocks, finances, and various work related items. The Internet was not by any means "high speed." If you know anything about ping or response times, my average ping to this website was 500 -1200. A standard cable/dsl connection yeilds 10 - 25 ping, and dial-up would yield 75 - 100. So agian, do not expect a "high speed" connection.
Something else to note, do not plan on doing anything other than some light email checking, or Inntown Suites will ban your MAC address (Your computers individual identification number) from thier network for using excessive bandwidth.
One day I was running a messenger program, a website and using a voice conference program all at the same time, which anyone will tell you does not take an unreasonable ammount of bandwidth. All of a sudden the internet stopped working. I called down to the main office and asked if the internet was down. The gentleman there informed me that someone was partaking in "illegal activities" on the network and "probably sending out spam emails and hacking" and that they had that individuals MAC address and banned them. Uninterested in this clerks fight against internet crime, I asked when the internet would be restored, and was informed that if I could not get online, then I was the culprit.
He then asked what my MAC address was, and I was unable to provide that information because at the time I did not even know what a MAC address was. He then informed me that unless I knew my MAC address there was nothing he could do because the ban from the internet was being done by a tech from a remote location at the corporate office. I asked him for the number to the tech so he could assist me and was told that he could not give me the number. I then asked him agian if there was anything he could do to resolve this issue, and was told no, not unless I could provide my "MAC Address" I then asked for the number to the corporate office to make a complaint, and was told that all problems had to be dealt with at the hotel level, and he was the one I needed to speak with. Agian, just to clarify his refusal, I asked for the number to the office responcible for this store, and was refused the number. At this point, I thanked him for his lack of assistance and hung up.
