cute, clean, different
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/18/09
I was pleasantly surprized when I saw the lobby. It's true the street side facade has a run-down look to it (the old boxy 50's style building) but once inside it just gets better. The pool area and walkways are all paved in flagstone. The room itself had a mid-century modern thing going on. The lime sherbet walls were a surprize but fun. The bed linens were immaculate and very comfy and this is the first time I found a chaise lounge in a hotel room! The young woman at the desk was cordial and helpful later when I lost my money in the soda machine. No there are no muffins or candies on the pillows which is fine by me. It certainly deserves an above average rating as a very cute boutique style hotel. I would return.

Unreal (in a bad way)
By Ben Pierce, 09/08/09
First off I am NOT a fan of bashing things. Honest. But this place is messed up. We were there as a part of a wedding party and ALL OF US cancelled as soon as we saw rooms. We suspect there was a bait-and-switch at play as the "sample room" shown a couple months earlier (to another member of our party) was nice. The rooms: In a word, dirty. Visible debris in corners and at edges, including (my favorite part) a D BATTERY just lying on the floor in front of the patio doors. HUH?!?! Misc.: Front doors to BOTH rooms we saw looked like they had been recently been broken into. Patio screens were mangled and inoperable. "Path" to the pool from the rooms consisted of an un-mown patchy "lawn" that was filled w/ dog crap. Outdoor furniture was strewn about and in very poor condition. We are currently disputing ALL charges, as are all members of our party. There is something seriously strange going on at this place. Possibly good fodder for a B-movie but not anywhere I would EVER lay my head. I'll sleep in the car waaayyyyy before staying here.

Great Place
By Ashley, 12/15/08
I loved the Capri Hotel, it's so close to everything, especially downtown. It had really good prices and it was very comfortable. The front desk was awesome...they were all so helpful. I will definately come back to this hotel.

False Advertising
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/19/08
It is advertised as having two heated pools plus a spa...pools yes but NO spa unless you consider a round tub with hot water and NO working jets a jacuzzi??? We had a lovely dinner in town and were looking forward to relaxing our muscles with some heated water pressure only to be told that the jacuzzi has NOT been working for TWO YEARS:~( ~Sadly Disappointed

My wedding party guests had the time of their life!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/21/08
My husband and I got married in Ojai last year, and while we stayed at the Emerald Iguana with the rest of our immediate family (beautiful place, horrible experience), we put the overflow family and friends at The Capri. We'd checked it out a few weeks earlier and after seeing the pictures they give you online, my first impression was that we were at the wrong place. It looked like an brokedown roadside motel, not the classic, retro hotel they were selling it as. But once we stepped inside the lobby, we took in a huge sigh of relief...it was beautiful! the pool area was very well kept and the backyard (with the cabanas and lounge chairs) looked like an oasis. The room we stayed in was a ground floor room with a huge attached patio. The TV was a huge flat screen, and the bed was made of white linens. The bathroom was ok, but the room and backyard more than made up for it. We had the wedding and reception a few weeks later and afterwards the afterparty was at the hotel. I was too tired to go, but the next morning all I heard was how much fun everyone had. There was another wedding party there the same weekend, so all the doors were open and all the guests were mingling and hanging out. Our friends who were musicians and performed in our wedding played under the cabana while the guests came out on the lawn and enjoyed themselves under the moonlight. Now, that's not to say it's like that every weekend, when we went a few weeks earlier, it was quiet, peaceful and restful, where nothing out of the ordinary happened. My point is they take into consideration who their guests are. Any other hotel might have shut the party down, but they realized there were wedding parties there and let them enjoy themselves, which I appreciated. The staff is pretty cool, they let you do your own thing. After 10 or 11 they lock up the lobby and no one is there working, so if you're looking for 24-hour personal attention, you might be disappointed, but if you're self sufficient and just want to get away at a reasonable price, I highly reccommend it!!

Nice Room - Very Bad, Rude Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/14/07
The rooms have been renovated. The TV is great and the bed and sheets are very comfortable. The rest of the room is average. We stayed 3 nights and when we called down for an iron the response was "I don't know if we have one and I'm busy right now". Similar response when asked for a cork screw on another occasion. We wanted a receipt upon departure and were told the printer is not working. The attitude at all times was like it was an effort to speak to us. The one and only reception person was a young girl who couldn't care less. I've found this same attitude at other places where a child is put in charge of a business. We should have asked for a manager at the time, but I'm quite sure there wasn't one there.

No Bang For My Buck
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/02/07
This was our first stay at this hotel. We were excited to be away from home, but not excited to the used shampoo, lotion, conditioner, and body wash that awaited us. We did not find any complimentary fruit or muffins awaiting us. I do not think that this hotel was worth the $169.00 we paid. The outside of the hotel looked like it hadn't been landscaped in awhile, as it had dead bushes and plants. The bright orange painted walls were not calming to us, as well as the lime green bathroom. The carpet was sticky and looked like it was not vaccuumed. When we went to use the coffee pot it was dirty, so we had to go to the lobby for the free coffee. While checking out, another customer who stayed in the hotel was complaining about the same things that we found with our hotel room. In trying to find a positive comment, I can say that the staff were very friendly and the lobby had excellent coffee.

Awesome stay in Ojai!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/06/07
The Capri has been transformed into a lovely, user-friendly boutique hotel with all the necessary amenities in the past year. The new owners live on the premises and have done a great job re-investing in this classic 50s gem. They've preserved the 50s rock lobby and pool area while revitalizing the rooms to include a plasma t.v., ipod docking station, dvd player (with free DVDs available at front desk), microwave and refrigerator. First floor rooms include a huge private patio/grass area. Breakfast is included with the night's lodging. Home-baked cookies are available in the afternoon. We had a great time and will be back!!

Paradise less than an hour away from LA
By , 06/11/06
Honestly The Capri Motel is perfect for a weekend escapade. Me and my husband have been there twice since we discovered it earlier this year. The bedrooms are super clean and bright with very nice details, the 42 inch TV is great to end the day watching a good movie you can pick up at the front desk after a long outdoors day!
