Small Rooms but Very Clean

I had done extensive research on the net to find a nice hotel near the Vatican before our trip. The Spring House was highly recommended by most sites and it turned out to be great. At first arrival it seemed in a bad neighborhood, rather dirty streets, grafatti walls, crazy parking, lots of sirens. But after a few days we came to realize this is ROME. The outside of the hotel is not enticing, but the inside is clean and crisp. The rooms are very small but clean. The location is perfect for the Vatican around the corner, up the steps and you are at the museum entrance. The metro is a few blocks the other direction and the entire city of Rome is much smaller than I expected and we walked everywhere! We saw so many exciting sites in only 7 days which included a bus tour to Pompeii, Hadrians Villa and the catacombs. All other stops were by metro or foot. I fell in Love with Rome and loved it much more than Paris or London. I can't wait to take my husband and kids. This trip was shared with my mother in law and our former exchange student from Berlin flew down for a few days. The restaurants around the hotel are very good including the Mexican one directly across the street. The front desk was helpful and the maids and maintenance personel were trustworthy and very through. Hope this helps your plans.
