Comfort Suites Newport, Newport

I have to admit that we (my wife and I)were comped to this hotel as it was deemed much nicer than the hotel I usually frequent closer to the home office. Our stay was for 5 nights and we checked out the first thing in the morning after surviving an agonizing first night. Check in: After 20 minutes we were acknowledged. The clerk there initially was arguing with a customer over the phone about a missing reservation. The second clerk that arrived was able to check in the lone customer ahead of us in a swift Min! Security: Not sure if this is a bad neighborhood or if this hotel had a lot of problems but in any case we were approached twice by a security guard when trying to enter our room. Further indications of potential trouble came when turning the TV on, a whole video production on how to safely enter or exit your vehicle when parked within the hotel parking areas. Cleanliness: Flat out horrible! I stay in a lot of hotels with and without prestigious names. Never have I seen such filthy rooms, hallways, elevators and amenities. It was absolutely revolting. The hotel's interior appearance reflected on the customers as well which found it to be acceptable to come in to the breakfast area barefoot and in their Pj's. My wife wanted to make coffee in the room and found the carafe to be dirty and an old used filter with grounds in it. I will not list and detail all the filth and dirt we found for it would require way to much space. I must say that the other negative review I read on this site was an understatement of actual conditions! Spend less of your money elsewhere and receive 10x the value

What a great place, location is the best. Everyone was very outgoing. You can walk to various locations and also take the shuttle to Cincinati. Parking should be more controlled it seems like everyone parks at the hotel because it is free. Valet would be very nice it just makes people feel special.

The staff was very friendly and professional at all times. They made sure we were satisfied. The room was very clean, and the entire hotel was nice. The only thing to be improved is the continental breakfast. The food was not hot, and the bagels and toast were across the room from the toaster. That made it difficult for disabled people.

We checked in with a reservation later at night and found the room larger than we had anticipated, with extra fold-out couch, refrigerator, microwave, etc. The front desk was helpful in directing us to the nearby Hoffbrau House. The complimentary breakfast the next morning was more than adequate with a varied selection of both hot and cold breakfast foods, juices, hot beverages, etc.

My cousin pitches for the LA Dodgers. We drove to stay in Newport KY to see him play against the Reds. We didn't find out we had tickets until the last minute. Everything was sold out except the "presidential suite" for $221.00. Of course we took it. (We've stayed in other Comfort Inns and always enjoyed our stay.) This was a horrible experience. The front desk was understaffed, there was mold in the drain and jets of the whirlpool tub, black floor in the shower stall. When I tried to call the front desk for assistance, the phone in the master bedroom did not work. After several attempts, I made several long distance calls from my cell phone trying to reach the front desk. I finally had to go down there. (My husband is disabled and I'd already gotten him into the bed.) I rode the elevator down with several young people who wreaked of marijuana and were quite intoxicated. It took forever at the desk again. They sent housekeeping up with bleach and some horrible looking rags. I asked them to leave them and I'd clean the tub and shower myself. There were also burn marks on the furniture and the marblelite in the bathroom, though this was supposed to be a non-smoking room. There was all kinds of noise all night in the hallway. I discovered finally that the phone in the front of the suite had been left off the hook. (One of the housekeepers admitted doing that.) The towels were gray looking and had been overwashed. They were scratchy and not absorbant at all. There was no pool, no work out facility. The parking area did not seem secure. We had great difficulty in finding a "safe" looking restaurant later that evening after the game. All in all, a very bad experience...Lorraine Madden Cols OH

The location was great, service was good, room and common areas were clean and updated. My wife and I both felt the king bed was comfortable. Love the views on the river side of the place. The women in the breakfast area were very friendly(and they have a lot to put up with!) Have used the hotel before and will use them again.

The service and rooms were wonderful. The staff was very helpful. The hotel is close to many attractions. It is in a beautiful section of town with lots to do and close to restaurants
