Description

In the gracious Charleston tradition, this three-story, 1887, Victorian-style mansion once belonged to a wealthy tobacco merchant. It features lush gardens, a 120-foot wraparound veranda, ten comfortable guest rooms furnished with antiques and cozy fireplace in the lobby. Guests wake up to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and a delightful Continental breakfast awaiting them. The city trolley stop is a short distance for travel into the city's historic district a few blocks away. In the afternoon, guests can enjoy snacks and a glass of sherry in the library or veranda to chat with other visitors. -Natasha Lawrence

beautiful and relaxing
By Melissa, 7/10/06
I love this place! I was traveling alone, and stayed in the Emilie room, a small, cozy room with a shared bathroom/shower but a sink in the room. The shared bathroom was no problem at all. This place was the best deal in Charleston that I could find. I don't care about Victorian furnishing and all that, but what I loved were the tree-filled front and back yards, the wraparound porch full of rocking chairs, side tables, magazines, and three friendly cats, and the great location 4 blocks away from downtown Charleston. Of course, there was also the cut-glass decanter of brandy with two chocolates in the room when I checked in, the free continental breakfast and coffee and juice in the morning, and the afternoon sherry that also made me love this place :-) I will definitely stay here again when I come back to Charleston, which was also a lot of fun to visit.
