Great food!
By Steve, 8/9/09
I've only been there a few times, and it had been a while.......once for a weekend family reunion, once for a class reunion, and once for a day pass to go fishing with the family. My husband grew up going there with his buddies to hang out, swim, and fish. I recently went there to eat dinner at the restaurant for the first time, mainly because my daughter is a waitress out there now and we wanted to see her at her new job and in action!! Most of the food is homemade.......entrees, desserts, salad dressing, crouton bread, etc. Expensive.......but definitely good food !! Very nice restaurant and atmosphere. Afterwards, we drove around to see the new additions and remodeling. Other than the expense, the overall place is a a very pleasant area to go for a weekend get away or just to eat.....must make reservations first for the restaurant...no walk-ins and no day passes at resort either. Wish they still had the day passes....would like to take the kids to swim, fish, and see the alligators and turtles......and just to spend a relaxing day in the woods.

My oldest son is 29 yrs. old and I have 3 other kids, youngest is 19 and we have been going to chain - o - lakes since the eldest was 7 months old.

We love to stay in the log cabins over the water. We used the camping facilities also when they were available. We enjoyed the fishing, hiking, swimming, conoeing, horseback riding, riding our bikes, just being in the quiet serenity of nature, relaxing and spending time with each other and not worring about the busyness of the world. My kids grew up going to chain-o-lakes just about every summer. Now my daughter is planning to have her wedding here at chain-o-lakes. Oh! she's my youngest child. Now we are having the joy of bringing our grandchildren. Other family members have been coming over the years also when we want to spend quality time together.

Disappointed & Scared
By Z., 11/20/07
When we were worried that our family members got lost during canoeing, the help desk let us go find them ourselves. Nobody told us there were alligators in the lake before we saw them. My son loves horseback riding, and it was the main reason we decided to stay there on Sunday. We made reservation with the horseback riding company and paid in full weeks before we got to the resort. However, they cancelled the activity because it was raining that morning & they were not available for the rest of the day & next day.

Worse Experience
By mr mrs, 8/25/07
This place has low class cabins and low class service. The food is bland and tasteless. It is not worth the drive out of Houston. It's basically a Motel 6 in a pretty venue. Save your time and money. The management is rude and treat you like a disease. This was not a relaxing weekend for me. It was HORRIBLE.

Amazing!!!(With a small twist but dont let it bother your vacation.)
By linda, 7/29/06
This place was awesome if you got up at I think 7:00 then u could go outside and a chariot would come and if you got on then it would take u to the restraunt for brunch and there is a gift shop with good snacks and things to buy and a big open kind of half-lake to go swimming in but the only scary part to me just to let you all know is that there are alligators that ull see but just don't bother them and also they're normally kept away from u like ur above them in ur cabin or the restraunt is above the lake where alligators in so just to let u all know that before u decide to go and get there and think "Oh my gosh, there is Alligators!!!"It's a great place to do things like go Canoeing and fish and swim, oh and the swimming lake has no alligators just to let you know and I think I saw a sea turtle when I went swimming but it won't bother you and to make the lake more fun for kids there is a waterslide, and the weirdest part was the night after I ate some hot dogs I was fishing off the balcony of the cabin and I cut up a slice of a weener and I caught and alligator but the hook got stuck in its mouth so I just cut the wire and the alligator swam away but remember just dont let the alligators bother you, so just know...This place is awesome!!!
