PART OF MY LIFE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/28/11
This is my 35th year at the Moki, found it when I was about 25. Back then it was about $14 a night. I stay three weeks a year and am sitting here listening to the ocean right now. Same wonderful group of caring people every year, and have gotten to know and love them all. Seen some of or friends pass away over the years and have even lost a few while here. Staff have become like family and work very hard to please, so please tip them well. If you love the sea, beautiful secluded beaches, a walk or snorkling on the reef, sand, sun, and some peace and quiet this is the place to be. Oh, and it is amazing that I haven't seen 1 roach or ant in the room this year, but it is still possible I have 2 weeks left. ALOHA

Awesome Culture
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/11/08
Stayed at Mokihana for 2 weeks. We arrived around 11pm. I looked around and said "You've gotta be kidding me, wotta dump". Over the course of our time there (when we were there) we grew to love the place. Great staff, friendly neighbors, beautiful grounds. Make no mistake, it is old and small. But it is clean, no bugs and the staff fixed anything that needed to be taken care of immediately. Other than the friggin' door slamming and roosters it was very pleasant and quiet. We would alternate days of activity with hanging around the Moki grounds. It does tend to be an older group, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Plus, the Bull Shed is on the grounds and if you're an old school "Turf & Surf" person this might be the best steak house on the island. Anyway, we pissed enough money away at other places so for $50 buck a night you can't beat Mokihana.

Paradise
By Michele, 8/6/08
The Moki is complete paradise. Everything is old but to me that is what it is about. I have gone with groups and with just my daughter and friend for the past 5 years. Always feel safe. Everyone is always so friendly and welcoming. I have never had issues with traffic in Kaapa. Once in awhile a little wait to go south but you get out of it and everything is beautiful. It is centrally located so it usually takes as long to go north as it does south. PERFECT PLACE!!

Wonderful Bargain
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/24/08
Great location, could hear and see the ocean from our beds, safe enough to sleep on the ground level with just our screen door, we spend all our time out so not having a TV or phone works for us. Even no air conditioning works since the breeze is always there. We love this place and this was our fourth time there. Not for snubs just people who like a casual, laid back atmosphere. We love barbecuing in the evenings with other guests.

Best Deal on Kauai
This place is a real find. It is very inexpensive with no frills but so what? It is right on the water but set way back from the highway so no traffic noise. Nice pool, beautiful grounds and barbecues. Staff was very friendly. Yes rooms are not large and yes they are a bit threadbare, but mine was clean and I slept like a baby.

We cannot wait to go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/6/08
We have been going to Mokihana for over 10 years. Have always found it to be just what we want -- casual and relaxing. Barbecuing is a big thing for us so that's fun. The Farmers Markets are nearby so we have fresh fruit. We love the tradewinds, pool and long walks along the east shore. Not fancy but all that we need. Very reasonable. The staff is friendly and always willing to be of help. We're going back in September for two weeks and cannot wait!

Mokihana is Marvelous
By Lindsey, 3/4/08
I agree that it is older and the rooms aren't huge, but when you go to Hawaii/Kauai, who stays in their room the whole time??? It is a great place to stay with the beach just foot steps away and you get to fall asleep to the sounds of the waves crashing. I didn't see a cockroach or any insects, so it is clean enough, but the maid service is every three days, but that ends up being enough and not to mention "green." The location, scenery, and amenities were definitely good enough to make it a wonderful and memorable trip. I'm proud to call Mokihana MY timeshare!!

Simple Life
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/23/07
I like the location.. The Bullshed Rest. is located on the premises (great rest.) The rooms are very simple. Two twin beds, two burner hot plate, clock radio. The rooms are studio small. Great, cause your friends have to be entertained on the grounds. Instead of sitting in your room. There is no A/C, TV or phone in your room. NO DISTRACTIONS! You can rent a phone or tv for your room if you like. Plus they have a tv room. You can leave your doors open and enjoy the fresh air and listen to the waves crashing on shore at night. What else do you need? They have a nice bbq area outside next to the pool. If your going to Kauai to stay in your room, you should probably just stay home. It is a great place to lay your head and get rested for the next day.

It wasn't the Hilton
By Teri, 7/13/07
I visited the island middle of June; stay at the Mokihana. The pool was down, but the beach was amazing. I thought the people to be helpful and kind. I didn't need a TV or a phone. I brought a phone and rented movies. It didn't have any fluff, but it was still a nice experience. Enjoy yourself where ever you stay!!!

We only stand one night
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/25/07
This place was a dump. Despite the multiple roach traps in the room; roaches roamed freely. The kitchen is a hotplate with a poorly working refrigerator,no counter space, limited kitchen supplies, no water in the pool, no air conditioning, doors close but barely. Rotting wood out on the deck, no elevator, your feet feel dirty on the rugs. We stayed one night then went to find a decent place to stay.
