Description

Located in the heart of the South Beach Art Deco District, the Greenview Hotel is situated two blocks from the Ocean and less than a block from Lincoln Road, where hip restaurants, shopping and clubs abound. The charming and pristinely preserved art deco design of this cozy boutique hotel is just one of the many reasons vacationers choose to stay at the Greenview Hotel. White upholstery, mod furnishings, and wrought-iron railings create a soothing contrast to the 24-hour party scene that characterizes much of South Beach.Guest rooms in this European-style Bed and Breakfast hotel are simple, yet modern, and feature a desk, armchair, cable TV, and a large shower. In keeping with its classic, boutique style, rooms are immaculately styled with the elegance of another era: wooden floors and coir rugs. A complimentary Continental breakfast is included. This 1939 Hohauser hotel was completely renovated in 1994 by Parisian designer Chanan Minassian. It is close to all the South Beach night life but yet still secluded enough to give you a great night of sleep in the oasis-style comfort of this warm and wonderful hotel.

Definition Of Flea Bag Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/29/09
I have traveled throughout the world over the years and stayed in some of the very best hotels. I have also stayed in some hotels that were lacking. Because of my past travels I realize that maybe my standards may be a little high, but I must say my stay at the Greenview was one of the worst experiences I have had to withstand in my many years of traveling. The Greenview was recommended to me by someone who had stayed there many years ago. They told me it was a small art deco hotel that was not real fancy but extremely clean and inviting. I must point out that “Clean” in a very high priority when I pick a hotel. Because of very bad traffic coming out of the Florida Keys we arrive after 9:00 in the evening. I must say, if it had not been so late I we had not been so tired I would have walked out of the hotel as soon as I saw our room. The first thing I noticed as we walked up to the front desk to check in was a sign that let us know that the television would not be working. It was obvious that English was not the primary language of whoever wrote the sign. The fact that there would not be television service was not that important. I have stayed at several hotels like Little Palm Island where that is part of the reason people go there. So television or lack thereof was not a bad thing. We were checked into room 109. I have never….let me repeat…never been so disgusted by a hotel room in this country or any other country in which I have traveled. As I said before, if it had not been late and had I not been with someone else I would have turned around and walked out. First of all there was a plastic bag of trash and wet dirty cleaning rags laying on the bed as you walked in the door. I took these items down to the front desk and the guy behind the desk did not even seem the least bit surprised that these items were in the room. Then there was the fact that the smoke detector or should I say lack of a smoke detector since what should have been the smoke detector was a wire hanging down with nothing on it. The floor was filthy. I refused to take my socks off. The room needed painting and the carpet torn out. There is no way that it could be cleaned. There were on curtains on the window just the thing that curtains are suppose to be hung from. There were blinds over the window. These blinds were broken and dirty. They could not be opened, closed or adjusted in any way. There was some sort of dead bug on the pillow of one of the beds. The mirror on the closet door was hanging at a position that made it look like it was about to fall off the door. I could not get out of the Greenview fast enough the next morning. And believe me I will do my best to let others know about my stay. I truly can not believe that any owner or manager of any hotel would accept money for rooms in this condition. The Greenview Hotel is a perfect example of a “Flea Bag” hotel.

Would not reccommend it to my worst enemy.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/27/08
Hotel looked ok from outside but when you entered it was this awful smell that hit you, the shabbiness of the lobby furniture and general need of redecoration. The threadbare carpet leading to our room then continued inside as did this awful smell. The bed was so hard, low and creaky with what looked sewn up sheets was bad enough but then when i tried to test the shower the handle came off in my hand and there was mould on the shower curtain but admittedly the toilet was clean. The wardrobe also came with this smell which i could never put my finger on what it was but unpleasant whatever. We were moved to another room but unfortunately it was the same. We checked out not wanting to stay one night there.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/31/08
Dirty, unplesent and full of cocroaches. Could not sleep in bed as it was full of small worms and spiders. Paint falling of the wals, hols in the floor. Rooms smell terrible. I will never come back to this hotel.

Very upsetting
By JerryE, 5/6/08
The hotel is what it is. I had stayed there before and knew what to expect. It was good enough for me to make another reservation. Here the problems begin. I had made a reservation which I had to change the dates on. Made the change a month in advance, confirmed back from Yahoo, everything fine. Get to the hotel last night and clerk at front desk told me their records showed no change had ever been made and they had no rooms. I pulled out the documents showing that all had been done properly and the mistake and problem were thus on the hotel. The clerk told me he would check other hotels around the area for availability which he did. The one closest to the Greenview was available for about $30.00 more per night. I originally asked that the Greenview pay for the first night since I was being inconvenienced late at night due to their mistake. Clerk called the manager who told me they would not pay anything except the taxi fare to the another alernate hotel about 20 blocks away. This was unacceptable due to the far away location. Just getting the manager (Marcela) to agree to the taxi fare took 20 minutes of argument. I told them that the mistake was theirs, they should at minimum pay the difference for the more convenient hotel. But like I said, no luck at all. The manager had no business arguing with me (her customer). She should have offered to fix the problem by paying the difference on the (2) hotels. Though I am now in a much nicer hotel just a block away from the Greenview, I am stuck with an added expense of may $60.00 to $70.00 that I had not planned for. I plan on letting the owner of the property know about my bad experience.

Value, Location, Location, LOCATION!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/27/07
We decided to spend an extra night in Miami Beach after returning from our cruise and I, like so many of the other reviewers, found the Greenview on-line. It's the kind of incredible bargain you brag to your friends about finding. This is not a fancy hotel, by any stretch of the imagination, but it is clean and comfortable. As a base for exploring South Beach, it can't be beat. A scant 1/2 block from Lincoln Street Mall and two blocks from the beach! The staff, very helpful, friendly and courteous. Should I be returning to South Beach for a day or a week, I will definitely be staying again at the Greenview!

Never Again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/21/07
We were on the first floor and we could hear every footstep above us....all night long and every conversation. We were also near a exit door so it opened and closed....all night long. I would gladly pay more to stay elsewhere. Another surprise what that they provide no parking...you must use a public parking facility, if you can find room. The location was good. The bed needed a new mattress.

Very Convenient to Lincoln Rd
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/4/06
I found the Greenview on the Internet when looking for a place close to Lincoln Road and the Van Dyke Jazz Cafe in South Beach. The Greenview was just 5-6 blocks from the Van Dyke...a very pleasant walk actually. The room was updated and nice. The elevator was down so the front desk asked if I minded being on the 3d floor. No big deal really. All in all it was perfectly fine. I parked at the Miami Beach municipal garage which was near...not ideal, but ok. I would stay there again.

I wish I could go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/10/06
I found this hotel on the Internet; at the time the room was $60 per night (via the Internet website) and it was beyond all excpectations! The hotel is very nice, comfortable and its location is great. I live in France now so I did not get the chance to go back but if I have to go to Miami, I will go to the Greenview Hotel. The hotel is a reason why I like the city.

It was great
By Monique N, 6/7/05
I really enjoyed the hotel. It was very clean and the staff was very nice and helpful. I would love to stay there again. The sink is not nearly as small as I imagined it would be. The hotel was in the heart of South Beach without the extra noise. I would gladly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in South Beach on a budget.
