This hotel is for people who need a nice, cheap, alternative to the usual chain hotels in a convenient downtown LA location. It's definitely 'boutique' in that it's high on style, not so much on extras.
I really dug the design, I appreciated the flat screen tv and ipod speaker in the room. I liked the european shower design, but I can see how some people would get really annoyed with it.
If you order up a full-size room, be warned, it's small, think about the same size as an average college dorm room. If you have two people, go for the larger room if you can spare the coin.
The staff was extremely helpful, again, I think this hotel is great for how I travel which is basically a nice, stylish place to sleep and stash my stuff. If you're looking for a hotel that has a more 'resort' feel, I'd look elsewhere.
Note about location: I stayed in the hotel for one night, dropped my stuff and took off at 12pm, got back to my room about 1:30 in the morning. The financial district in LA is definitely urban, I never felt unsafe, as with all downtown areas, just use common sense and you should be fine.
