Very nice stay, great service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/19/09
My husband and I stayed at the AZ sedveral weekends ago, the rooms and service were top notch. The inn keeper was a delight, very helpful with directions and information about Winston Salem. We will be back and we have told our friends who also have children in school there that the inn is the place to stay when you are there to visit.

probably won't go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/12/09
When we arrived and checked in, there was no heat on in the room, it was very cold in there. The inn keeper stated "you're a little early & I've not lit the fireplace or turned on the heat. It was a nice place & a great location. Very disappointed in the breakfast, too many sweets. We had sausage, french toast, pastries, bran cereal, friut mixture in sauce, coffee, & juice. No eggs or anything else. Not good for a diabetic person. This was a weekend & was supposed to have a full breakfast.Very, very disappointing. Advertised with a wet bar with coffee, tea & water all day ,but found none. Don't drink wine, but cider was good, the cheese was soft like it had been out for a while. Been to several B&B & this was the worst breakfast ever, have better brreakfasts @ motels that have continental breakfast.Like I said the room was nice, great location, but the breakfast was terrible.

lovely inn

I had to write a response to the only review - which was not very flattering - found on this website. We have stayed at the AZ Inn while visiting college aged children on several occasions. We have found the rooms to be attractive, clean, and comfortable. The innkeeper is friendly and helpful. The location is wonderful - in the heart of Old Salem and close to both Salem College and the North Carolina School of the Arts. We usually eat breakfast with our son, but the meals we have eaten there were fine - eggs, sausage and muffins. Hot coffee and hot water for tea or other beverages is available throughout the day. The Salem Inn is across the street and serves very nice lunches and dinners.

Great location, terrible service, I am a returning guest
By J, 05/28/07
When we arrived in the morning no was able to help us with our luggage. We were meet by the innkeeper who was dressed in a tee shirt and barefeet. When we checked into our room the bathroom was dirty, the shades on the windows were broken, the cover for the exhaust fan fell off, and I found a used tampon applicator in the top drawer of the night stand. The breakfast of french toast was cold and hard there was no milk for the cereal and the innkeeper was no where to be found. When she finally came to clean up the dirty dishes which the guest had to bring to the kitchen themselves she was once again barefooted. When the wine and cheese was set out she was not to be found again. The guest had to take care of themselves. I needed to call a cab and went looking for her and found her in her apartment with a friend and was made to wait outside her door while she made the call. I needed to ask a question the next day but she would not acknowledege me because she was talking to her staff in the common dining area. She had no knowledge of any restaurants in the area and made you feel that she could not be bother with your questions. She was not around for check out and the housekeeper had to check out the guests. I made a call to the owner regarding my concerns and he told me he would call me back. It has been about 4 months and he has never called. We have stayed here before and had a very nice time and was treated very well, but we will not be going back again. Both my husband and I have traveled extensively in the United States , Europe, and Caribbean and this is the first time I have written a negative review. So if you choose to stay here the only postive aspect is the location.
