Will NEVER stay here again!!
By ,
We stayed in this hotel becasue the other hotels were full. After staying we see why the other hotels filled up first. Our room smelled and it was not smell you got use too. It was just as bad an odor in the morning as when we first entered the room. The airconditioner did not work. It banged and clanged all night but the room temp was horrible. The room was dirty. The floor was dirty and a chair had stains all over the side of it that I don't even want to know what it was. There were two electrical plates that were gone or borken exposing the electrical boxes. This was a major safety hazard for children. I reported all this to the front desk when we left. Both my wife and I had headaches after a night of sleep in this place. We would have had a better experiance sleeping in the car. The worst experiance I have had in a long time. DO NOT STAY!!

This hotel is very cheap, a good thing. However because of its price there are a lot of people who stay here who live the bar scene and both stays here were very unenjoyable. The first stay in March the hot tub didn't work and it was loud. People after the bars threw up outside the hotel doors on the sidewalk which we had to walk around as we were loading our car to leave in the morning. The second visit same thing. Drunk people came back from the bars at 3:30 and were so loud yelling and partying until 6 in the morning that we got no sleep. We have six children who got to listen to a lot of foul language that night, as they couldn't sleep either. We did have the front desk worker come up and tell them to quiet down but that didn't work at all. The door knobs kept falling off the door that joined our two rooms. The keys didn't work so they gave us a master key for the room door. A lady down from us had the same problem so she needed the master key too. The phone didn't work in one of the rooms either. It was just not a great place, especially with kids. We definitely won't stay here ever again. Two times we tried and two times it failed. On to another hotel.

Not as bad as people keep saying.
By ,
I had originally intended on staying at the Grandstay, but it was a bit pricey. My boyfriend looked around for places and found the Brookstone Inn. We got a room that was meant to be $71/nightly, for $35/nightly, instead. When we got there, there definitely is a smell in the lobby, but it's really not such a bad smell at all. The lobby is nice with a clean microwave, cereal (from 6am-10am), drinks, tables. The staff is really friendly. Not once did we have an issue with them. In fact, they were pretty understanding in every situation where we had any questions for them. The room was really nice, the bathroom was nice. The only real issue with the bathroom was how cold the floor was, but all that said, it was pretty humorous to watch my boyfriend keep putting socks on just to go to the bathroom. The room was extremely clean, we got a free fridge after requesting it, and room service came every morning whom were also very nice and friendly. The only thing about that is that I think they come a little too early, but all that said, they are definitely friendly people. The Brookstone was close enough to a few places to eat in walking distance as well. Between McDonald's, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Coney Island, we weren't ever out of a place to eat. I would definitely stay at this place again. It has a very "homey" feel to it. If you're used to getting Hilton Inn or something, you may be disappointed at your expectations. It's NOT a luxury hotel, but if you're just looking for somewhere to sleep and somewhere where people are friendly and it feels like home and is good on a budget, this is a good place to go.

They've updated! Very nice, despite bad reviews
By ,
I was very apprehensive about staying here after reading the reviews once we booked the place... I was hearing that it was unkempt, dirty, smelly, unsafe, the whole gambit. Immediately when we checked in, the lobby seemed nice and open and the girl at the desk was nice. She gave us our keys (key cards, a big update from the old metal keys that they have apparently used in the past) and we went in to check the room. The hallway was dark and looked a bit run down, but the room was very clean, had brand new sheets, and was ready to stay in. The handle on the door has obviously been replaced recently, and was very sturdy. There is a hole in the bathroom door (patched with spackle) and it didn't close/lock properly, but that wasn't the worst thing in the world... we just made sure to knock before entering if it was closed. If that was a problem, it could probably be an easy fix. The TV was a brand new flat screen, and there was a working alarm clock. We only stayed one night as we were passing through on a big road trip, but I had very few issues. Breakfast was good, and the pool looked clean... can't speak for the rest of the amenities (like a workout room) since I didn't see them, but I suspect they could have been somewhat updated if they have improved the rooms like this. Nutshell: They seem to have put some money into this place and fixed much of what previous tenants have been worried about. Try it out... we got a room for $45, which is quite cost effective, and the place is at least worth that. Maybe not a great choice for an extended stay, but short trips should be no issue.

Not as bad as other reviews have stated.
By ,
Our room was clean. Breakfast was the usual continnental fare, pool was clean, but on the cooler side. Hot tub was clean. Yes, the hallways were dark and things could use some updating, but for the price, I was happy with the overall experience. We would stay there again.

DIRTY! Do Not Stay Here! You will regret it!
By ,
Filty dirty rooms! Dark, dingy, smelly, uninviting hallways. I honestly don't know how anyone could actually stay in this run down filthy place. We are pretty easy to please people and are certainly not complainers when we travel. This was the first time we have ever had to actually leave a hotel that we have booked. The knot in my stomach would not allow me to stay in the filty room. Even my husband was disgusted and he is a pretty easy going guy. You would have to pay ME to stay at the Brookstone. Not only were the rooms very outdated, they were extremely dirty. Everything in the room was filthy and gross. The carpeting should have been replaced 20 years ago. The walls were filthy. There were cob webs in the corners. It looked as though they never even vacuumed the carpets. The lamp shades looked as though they hadn't been dusted or cleaned since they were put on the lamps. The was a chair in the corner that looked as though someone ate fried chicken and then wiped their greasy hands on the arms. The bedding did not appear to be clean as well. My husband and I didn't want to touch anything when we got in the room and we certainly kept our shoes on. The rooms looked as if they were used, abused, and then never cleaned. They gave us actual keys rather than key cards and the knobs were very shaky. Didn't feel safe or clean in that room. When we called to the front desk to tell them how we felt they gave us another room. When we got down to the front desk she gave us keys to a suite and that room was just as bad. I thought I would give it a try, but i should have known it was going to be just as dirty as the first room. The only thing good I can say about this place is that the lady at the front desk was very nice. The Brookstone website is very deceiving. It seems like a nice family owned hotel. The reasonable price is also very alluring. Don't be fooled! Pay the extra $20-$30 and stay someone else. Trust me, you will regret booking this hotel. You would be better off sleeping in your car.

Very satisfied
By ,
This was the 3rd year that my son & I met and stayed at the Brookstone. We found the staff friendly & the room clean. Nice room for the money. We did not find any offensive odor.

the place smelled bad, the beds were terrible, mold on the windows and on the shower curtain. Loud noises from paper thin walls.

Will not go back
By ,
This place had a bad smell after we walked through the lobby. The rooms were damp and smelled like the 70’s. The room was not clean. The doors use metal keys, which we found out opened other hotel room doors in our hallway- how unsafe is that. When we told the front desk, they said the manager was not around to help us out. But he biggest reason to not stay here is the bed bug bites
