Terrible!
By ,
the staff is NOT helpful, and the most concerning is the housekeeping staff went through my luggage and stole earrings!! The management did NOTHING to help! I would be very cautious about taking anything valuable.

four star nightmare
By ,
While the hotel itself is gorgeous the stay there was terrible. Miles driving down a steep winding dirt road full of potholes. They were under massive construction and gave us a room right next door. We changed rooms twice because of ant infestation, massive quantities of cockroaches and a dark colored mold covering the tiles in the bathroom. It was a huge hassle to switch rooms, when I notified them about the bug issue they told me I had to wait until the next morning for housekeeping to deal with me and it was only 8:30pm. Would not even give me a can of raid and after 7 pm to use the pool it took 20 minutes to find someone to turn on the lights and another 20 for them to figure out how to. I had booked the hotel for 4 nights, I stayed for one.

We would return in a heartbeat - LOVED PARADOR!!!
By ,
Hotel Parador was very relaxing, luxiourious and the staff could not have been nicer! Our only regret is the we only stayed 5 days. It was a very long trip, spent the night in San Jose (which I would skip if at all possible). The food was authentic, fresh and breakfast was heaven. An abundance of fresh fruits, baked goods, custom omlets - anything you wanted. We went in to town a few nights for dinner and every meal was great, El Grande Escape, the Blue Marlin. William the activity coordinator took us on a tour to the penthouse to see the awesome view from the top. Then he spent about an hour with us showing us the landscape, plants, animals. I could not say enough nice things about the accommodating and friendlly staff from the bartender to the maids. We stayed in garden room with a great little patio but if you afford the upgrade, go for it. The room was clean, fresh and no complaints, just rather small. Wish I had spent time at the spa, looked inviting. The pools and bar service are top notch, attentive staff. The best part about Hotel Parador is that you have so many choices for a small resort. There is a quiet pool, no kids, reading, yoga or just adult R & R. There are two other connected pools. We spent so much time at the beach and rafting, the pool was an afternoon thing for us. Get out and see the town and go to Manuel Antonio beaches - incredible. The beach near the hotel is nice but much quieter on weekdays since it is public many of the locals fill up there on the weekends. Either way it is a great swimming & sunning beach. Have a great time!

loved the location situated high up in the jungle over looking the ocean for miles. jewel like islands dot the horizon at sunset. the only thing I disliked was some lack of privacy.

Excellent but watch phones
By ,
Excellent hotel and service. Having breakfast with monkeys was so cool. Pool very nice and food good (little rich but if you like French you'll love it). One BIG thing. Watch out for making calls to the US from the room. It is through a company called BBG and they will charge you $40 US per call. The hotel should really warn you about this but they don't.

The HOTEL PARADOR reflects the original concept of a Spanish PARADOR-Hotel - it has a huge collection of antiques etc in the lobby and dining room area. The Hotel is mid size with a beautiful infinity pool and a nice SPA offering a small adult only pool as well. We did enjoy the amenities and complimentary upgrade to a bigger room w/ nice view due to our 10th anniversary . However, it was quite challenging to receive the service one would expect from a 4+++ hotel. Disappointing to find that the package we paid for (hotel incl. air service) was not provided - since air transportation was cancelled for no reason ( maybe Easter Sundy was not a good day for the pilot ?) we did request multiple times a refund for the 4 x tickets purchased through the hotel - almost 6 mths later NO REPLY NOR REFUND -- several phone calls were not answered .... When I did book the hotel we did experience some issues w/ no timely responses to my emails and I had to call several times to get answers to my booking arrangements . Maybe I should have taken it as a sign for the lack of srvice - my request to speak to the manager always ended in being hang up on - just very disappointing customer Sercice !

Worth the long bumpy windy road
By ,
The road to get the hotel is horrid!! Unpaved, barely enough room for 2 cars to pass eachother, a clff on one side and a mountain on the other. Pot holes galore! But worth it!! We stayed in one of the suites and the view was amazing! Check in was fast and friendly! Upon arriving at the hotel, we were hot, sticky, thirsty and tired. While checking in, one of the staff brought us cold wet rags to cool off with as well as a refreshing complementary beverage. MUCH NEEDED AT THE TIME :-) We booked all our tours with the tour desk at the hotel. The tours were amazing. The hotels location is very close to Manuel Antonio National Park which is very convenient! Do go for a tour through the park if your a wildlife enthusiast! There's pleanty of it. We saw sloths, monkeys, iguanas, bats, jesus christ lizards, a snake or two, vultures and more.. Wonderful The pool at the hotel is beatiful and offers a view of the ocean. Monkeys made their appearance on hotel grounds twice while we were there. There was also a sloth hanging out in one of the hotels trees. The staff was always friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was pleantiful and the coffee is great! As far as lunch and dinner go, it was very formal which is nice once in a while but we had to venture out for casual dining. The room was very clean and the view was amazing! Oh, and we went during "Rainy Season". It only rained about an hour each day late eavening. Other than that the weather was gorgeous and we got really good deals on the hotels and tours due to "Slow Season"

Money for Nothing
By ,
To get to the hotel you must drive down a winding unpaved road, too far from main street. The outside jacuzzi was cold and to use the jacuzzi inside the spa, you have to pay, to play billards in the bar area you have to pay, to use the internet you have to pay, and the food is lousy, instead of a general cook, hire a chef if you are a four star hotel. I was charged up front for my stay which was to be four days. However after 2 days I decided to leave. I have not received my refund yet. A hotel with a four star rating, such as Hotel Parador should cater to you and at my family did not feel catered to.

We shan'y go back
By ,
HOTEL PARADOR, Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica A lovely hotel in a stunning location. However, the staff leave something to be desired. On check-in we were kept waiting for our room for 1 hour 40 minutes after the stated check-in time. We had had a long journey and were tired, hot and sticky and wanted a shower and to change. When I complained to the manager (it took him 25 minutes to arrive) his response was it may be unacceptable but we are doing our best; if you want to complain to your travel company, that is your choice (I had made no mention of complaining). Reception finally allocated us a different room number; unfortunately, when we arrived there (with luggage) that room, also, was not ready. We later asked reception to book us a table at an outside restaurant. They did this but did not book the requested taxi. No apology and we were 15 minutes late for dinner. One is quite accustomed to having ones credit card swiped but, at this hotel, one also has to sign the blank credit card voucher unsettling at a time when we are all being warned to be on our guard against credit card fraud. However it was made quite clear no signature meant that every bill for drinks and other extras would have to be settled on the spot with cash. The room was spacious and very pleasant; there are five grades and we had a Superior. However, lighting was inadequate and the bed reading lights were located out of reach between the beds with a bizarre switching arrangement (push once for left, twice for right, three times for both & four times for off). Towels were located above the toilet, inconveniently well away from both wash basin and bath. The bath was excellent large and roomy (a pity that its plug wasnt watertight). The air conditioning unit was the quietist we have ever encountered which meant that leaving it on overnight was no problem at all. Breakfast service was disorganised and the buffet was adequate rather than lavish. It was unsettling to have ones coffee cup and napkin removed while we were at the buffet but at least on that morning we did get coffee without having to take our cups in search of it. The hotel was impersonal with no atmosphere. One was conscious of being merely a number never a name. Nice hotel - shame about the staff. We shall not go back. Dr Roger Litton UK January 2006
