reservation nightmare

we had an unsecured reservation (gift certificate) for motel 6 in helen ga and were going to arrive about 7 pm, so we tried for 2 1/2 hrs to call them to let them know. no one would answer the phone, so we called guest relations for them to call, and they never got an answer either. we then called reservations and explained the situation to them because we were afraid we would lose our room. they said we could secure our reservation by using a credit card, but the person using the gift certifcate (our niece) did not have a credit card. we were told that another person could use their credit card to secure the reservation and there would NOT BE A CHARGE. when we arrived at motel 6 in helen ga, the desk clerk was sitting on the couch with her small baby watching tv! whoever heard such!!!!!! While checking in we called the motel to see if they would answer-NOPE! they didn't. we told the clerk we tried to call for several hrs while traveling there and all she said was that they sometimes had phone trouble. you'd think they never heard of repair service. the room was nice but had fleas (pet friendly rooms), they came and sprayed and all was good. there is not enough light at the table to look at maps or brochures. Personnel was nice and our vacation was so much fun. the next month i got my credit card bill, and was charged for the 2 nights we stayed. i called the credit card company, was told to call motel 6, then called reservations. no satisfaction fo settle the problem. it took me 3 MONTHS TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM AND GET A REFUND, BUT ONLY AFTER THREATNING TO SUE THEM. please be careful when dealing with these people. this motel 6 in helen ga is privately owned and the owner even told me that he was not aware of the situation until almost 3 months had passed. it was up to him to decide if i got a refund and he decided i was a NO SHOW AND WOULDN't GET A REFUND. SO IF YOU WANT THIS SAME PROBLEM, STAY AT MOTEL 6 in HELEN GA. this situation should have never occured, have never had this problem before this or since then anywhere else i've stayed. good luck in dealing with this place and hopefully you won't need to threaten to sue them like me.
