4 reviews for Governor's House, Portsmouth
Great accommodations, but a ways out of town.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/06/10
Great rooms and a nice breakfast was included. Was a bit mis-led on it being in downtown. It's a good ten minute walk to get to downtown. In inclement weather, it's a bit inconvenient.

the way to experience the seacoast
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/15/06
We just returned from a lovely stay at the Govenors House. It is a beautiful B&B (great decorations but not twee), convenient to downtown yet very peaceful. The small details were wonderful as well--the fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies, bikes for loan, comfortable bed, Frette robes, the free beverages in the rooms, the DVD collection, the afternoon wine and cheese. The hosts were attentive yet respectful of privacy.

Wonderful experience at the Governor's House
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/11/05
I loved everything about my stay here. The rooms are very comfortable and unique. The beds are like clouds, and every amenity possible was thought of. There are DVD players and stocked refrigerators in each room, beautiful private baths, and my room had a big comfy leather couch to read on. There is free internet access in the library with a large collection of the best movies of all time. The dining area is gorgeous, the food was great, and the hosts Bob and Barbara were very nice and knowledgable about where to have dinner in town (only a 5-minute walk to quaint and cultured downtown!). Wine and cheese every night, and Sam, the friendly black lab, added the perfect touch to this vacation! For what you pay here, it's worth every penny.

One of the best in the NH Seacoast
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/30/05
The most elegant small hotel in the NH seacoast area. As a transplanted native, who returns whenever possible, I am captivated by the charm, attention-to-detail and service. Thrilled to see the Governor's House reopen after many years as a private residence. Breakfast on the porch was well-conceived, tasteful and romantic. The handpainted tile bathroom indicative of the importance of the local arts to the owners, as to the community. Frette linens a real spoil and we enjoyed our bathrobes. Near the harbor and waterfront activities, great restaurants, shopping and active Portsmouth nightlife, but the few blocks of travel between the downtown area and the residential Miller Ave. neighborhood makes this inn a welcome retreat. We were well cared for and look forward to returning every year!
